confused

Okay so I am twenty three days clean from opiate and I have always dealt with anxiety my whole life. Last week I had a doctor appointment because I was so overridden with anxiety. I didn't know how to deal with it. My doctor recommended na and I have always been on Xanax but he up my script to one milligrams three times a day. Do you think he should have done that

Hopefully the longer you are clean the less you will have anxiety attacks.  I have never had one but i hear they are pretty miserable.  If you arent comfortable with the increase in dose then i would maybe get a second opinion too.  If you decide to take the meds then just try it out for awhile and see how you do.  I would check into an addiction specialist or NA also.  Keep us posted on how you are doing.  Congrats on 23 days!!!!  sara

Sometimes coming off of an opiate can really increase your anxiety for a time.  It is different for each person but it did increase my anxiety.

Congratulations on being off for 23 days!!!!!   That is wonderful!

Wow I'm kind of suprised at the snarkiness of the previous comment. Like avisg said is true though, we are not going to be able to tell you if a dosage is right for you. With that in mind I feel what you are going through. Before I ever found pain killers as a release I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder at a young age. My life was pretty much unbearable without Ativan which is a similar benzo drug to Xanax and I would have extreme fear and panic and without the ativan o would be a worried mess. My dad has anxiety disorder my sister has it and so does my uncle this is something that is probably true for you as well. What I'm trying to get at is that some people HAVE to take medications because of an imbalance in their brain. Without them I know my life would be unbearable. They CAN be abused so only take them as prescribed or even less if your anxiety is in control. One thing that can really help with anxiety is routine, excersize, and an anti depressant like zoloft or paxil but you probably already knew that. So I wouldn't stress that he upped the dose just be smart and take them the way that you are supposed to. Also that is so awesome that you are 23 days clean that is huge! Keep it up and I hope this helped.

I dont think we can answer that for you we dont know your medical history or the type of panic you are dealing with. However it is highly addictive and at some point you will have to come off of and its going to be a very long hard wd with the risk of seizures so I would keep that in mind .
