by janet813, Sep 14, 2009 10:39PM
i need advice. i have been addicted to darvocet for many years. i am at the end.doctors and pharmacy finally caught up with me ie:over usage. i take up to 30 pills  in 24 hrs . i think it's over for me ,could i die if i just stopped taking this med? have no other choice. as i think the doctor i have had for 8 yrs now will kick me out of his office.
i took a rx to my pharmacy today and it came up "to early" to fill  with insurance. so i asked for it back and went another pharmacy and told them i did not  have insurance. they in turn called my dr. ,the other pharmacy and confronted me. help please. i don't know what to do. thanks

Hi and welcome. Make a decision to get clean. Not bc you got in a jam but bc you understand you are an addict and this will only take you in one direction....DOWN. You will not die from ct from darvocet. You will have flu-like symptoms for 4-7 days. I recommend calling your doc first thing tomorrow and coming clean with him and asking to help you with wds or to refer you to someone who can. Read these posts and see where this is going. You can get free from this and have a good life again. God bless, Corey

Yes, that amount can kill you.  30 darvocet per day @ 500mgs of  Acetaminophen per tablet is a MONSTER LIVER BOMB.  The daily allowance is 4000mgs per day and that is pushing it to the daily limit!!

Feel fortunate you got this wake up call.......

Please stay here and keep posting.  We are here to help.

God Bless,
Nauty.............

Welcome Janet! I'm coming off of N-100 8 years myself, please see my original post 'Darvocet1Escape' The N-100 has 650mg acetominophen in it and is killing your liver yes. If you don't have jaundice- (yellowing in eye sockets or on skin), it will likely recover. You've been on such a high dose that you might want to taper down some first. If your doc or another doc will work with you, ask for Darvon for tapering down because it has no acetominophen in it. The trouble that brought you to this final phase is a great blessing. My habit was much less and on weekends only but after 9 clean days I am feeling absolutely fantastic. You will too, and after you've stopped for a while you'll be amazed at how good you will feel in only a couple short weeks maybe less after completey stopping. Folks on this forum are great, but Darvocet can get a little less attention. Connect with me, you have a new friend and I'll help you thru this. The withdraw from Darvocet is fairly mild compared to the 'heavy' pain meds so take great comfort in that. Ask me anything you want, I'll keep an eye on you. Stay in touch and welcome to your wonderful new life !!

You definately need to make a choice as to whether or not you really want to get clean, not just because you feel as though you have no choice. It's a shame that this has happened to you, but you can only move up and forward from this moment on -- don't backpedal. Everyone is different in their own way and situation when it comes to pain killers, but if you're that concerned with your health because of the pill taking over the past few years -- then I would suggest going back to your doctor, coming clean with him/her about everything and build your trust back from there. This way, your doctor will also be able to examine you to the point where they'd be able to find out if any damage has been done to your liver or any other parts of you because of the pills.

Also -- have you spoken with your doctor about this since you were "caught" by the pharmacies? Just out of curiousity.

although darvocet is not that strong, don't be fooled. the withdrawal can be just as brutal as stronger opiates. people tend to down play it. i would talk to your doctor and see if he will let you taper. that along with the thomas recipe or similar protocol and alot of support and you should be ok. i took up to 20 a day for a long long time. feel free to IM me if you want. good luck. sway

tapering down is a good idea/in theory..in reality an addict sux at tapering..if u plan to taper then u may need a trusted friend to dole them out daily to u..or ct is a definite option..darvocet is on the weak/very weak spectrum of narcotics....30 darvocets in narcotic strength  isnt even equal to a couple of hydros..it is just that weak....ct would be my decision but 30 tabs a day means u have a habit to replace/popping pills constantly thru the day...even if they were really not even serving a purpose

95% of this is mental...i followed the thomas recipe plus upped my workouts to increase endorphins..in a way i think i may have substituted supps/vitamins for pills i woulda usually taken...not saying this is healthy..but the routine/the ritual of popping a pill everytime we feel a bit down//is in reality sumpin we gotta break
