day 2 of WD

I'm into my 2nd day 3rd night without taking anything. I've been on 10/325 endocet for about a year. I had gotten myself down to only 2 a day but cold turkey was still unbearable so I kept getting more of them..I could not stop. I needed them to get through my day. I work 6 days a week on my feet all day and have 2 little ones at home. They are the reason I need to stop. I've wasted so much money away and have tried to use my problems to justify continuing to use. I felt that it made my day better and helped me get through things when really its destroying my family...my boyfriend and I both fell into this awful habit and he is actually okay now and I still feel terrible. I was breaking my pills into 4 pieces and took my last piece on Tuesday morning before work and I've been working everyday since then, hiding the fact that I'm WDing and trying to take care of my boys. I've been having these breakdowns since the other night just crying for no reason, shaking, can't sleep and sweating terribly. Is there any relief at all or is it just a waiting game?

Fortunately I slept a little better but my son woke up around 6 so I didn't get a whole lot of sleep, but I feel less achey today but more stomach issues again, I think ill have to get the immodium.
This is helping me so much with the mental part of it, if it weren't for you all talking to me and giving me such great advice I would be hurting so much worse. Work is keeping me busy, I'm working a double today and my legs ache but not near as bad as yesterday and I've been taking ibuprofen every 4 or 6 hours to help.
I'm so excited to get through my next day feeling better and better. I want my life back, I have more cash in my pocket than I ever used to and that's a great feeling! I can save my money.
But my relationship is still in jeopardy because of all of this and I'm not so sure where to start..I don't think he knows how to support me and its frustrating.. :/

I should add that if a person is taking benzo, and because they boost serotonin levels by blocking the re-uptake of serotonin  by the neuron, it's going to depress dopamine levels, and you will, as a side effect of the benzo, feel tired. This is a common side effect.
Like opiates or anything else that interferes with the normal function of neurons and neurotransmitters, there is always a  price to pay.

For some people, even 500mg tyrosine is too much. While the Thomas recipe suggests starting with 500mg, the Amino acid protocol recommends starting with 200mg, and if you feel anxiety with that, even less, or just discontinue it.

Why this is has to do with whats going on with your serotonin production and levels, too much dopamine reduces serotonin, which is why you get anxiety, and too much serotonin reduces dopamine and you get dragged out.  So if your serotonin levels are bouncing up and down for some reason, it's real hard to find a dose of tyrosine that will work.

So first you would have to stabilize your serotonin by finding whats causing it to fluctuate.  A person may wake up with enough serotonin and feel good part of the day, then have anxiety/ depression in the afternoon when levels drop. Unless you are taking a benzo, usually 5http will boost serotonin enough and fix this. Then if you are still low on energy,  take a small dose of tyrosine to start. You can then take more if nothing much happens, but don't take more to the point where you get anxiety.

Unfortunately however, you can't take 5htp if you are taking a benzo, and the tyrosine won't do much good either if the benzo is making your serotonin levels go up and down.

You have had some great info and I really can't add much..just wanted to say I am hoping you get thru the next few hours and get some sleep.  No sleep is so hard and it really helps the time get by while you are struggling.  The Imodium REALLY helps.  I would add to double up on the amount suggested at least for the first day.  It will plug you up a bit..not a bad thing with the opiate trots but it will clear up in a few days.  The other stuff does work if you give it a little time.  I found the Ltryosine did not work for ME, it made me a bit anxious and I was taking the minimum of 500 capsule and not the 2-4,000 that was suggested.

Just take it a minute, an hour at a time.  That is all anyone can ask.  I am at day 26 and I can't believe I have come this far.  I promise it gets better.

Thats great!  I'm happy to hear you are doing well  on the amino's and vitamins!

Re Alteril  :    Alteril sleep aid has L-Tryptophan ( essential amino acid), Melatonin, Valerian and L-Theanine (non-essential amino acid- Green or black tea is a natural source) as the main active ingredients, all which are natural ingredients.
Some people do not tolerate melatonin supplements well however.

Theanine  is like a natural Valium, a lot of people do well just using that alone, or you can drink 4-5 cups black tea, which has about 22mg per cup of theanine.

L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid.  This means that it cannot be synthesized by the body and therefore must be part of the diet. Amino acids, including tryptophan, act as building blocks in protein biosynthesis and functions as a biochemical precursor for making serotonin neurotransmitters,  which in turn, can be converted to melatonin by the body as needed.

Tryptophan is abundant in  most protein-based foods or dietary proteins. It is particularly plentiful in chocolate, oats, dried dates, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, red meat, eggs, fish, poultry, sesame, chickpeas, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, corn, spirulina, and peanuts.

So to save a few bucks, have some of your favorite  chocolates with some Black or green tea before bed, along with your magnesium and calcium supplements of course! :o)

Kris:  Can someone go to the store for you?  There are two products that will help you right now:

Hylands Restful Legs for the RLS and it works great! Most people take 3 to start.  Then, Alteril for sleep. It's all natural and works!!

Force fluids right now and try to eat something...maybe toast and some green tea?  Tea helps , hot baths help, time helps...

You'll be okay...you just need to give it a week or less to get through this part. Working everyday is most likely helping you but I know it's hard...

Hey! I'm taking b-complex (the dropper one) 1 whole dropper full a day, L-glutamine(I take 1000 mg twice a day...u can take more), Vit C(2 gummies twice a day), 5-htp(1 pill 3x a day). It really helps. I was up to nine 50mg tramadol a day til Oct 25th and that week tapered down to 3 1/2  50mg a day and on Monday took my last dose. I actually got off of hydrocone by taking tramadol about 4 yrs a go when they were considered non narcotic. I thought they were an answer to my prayers...come off hydros with something that's non addictive...ya right! I honestly want to be normal again and thinking about my kids has got me through this so far. Don't give in and get more pills...maybe trhat melatonin vitamin can help u sleep. Drink some energy drinks, hopefully that'll give u some energy. It's rough but soon we'll be over the physical part. I'm tryin to think of it as having the flu...won't last forever but it gets better. I do feel rough and I swear I have a sinus infection on top of it...lol...but I've heard the Wd's feel like the flu...drink lots of water and gatorade. Try some vitamins...it does make u feel better

Another thing you can try to help with the initial withdrawal symptoms is Imodium. (no substitutes) It not only helps settle your guts, it helps with the withdrawal symptoms such as RLS  as well.
As mentioned on the amino acid protocol page, a hot bath followed by taking Magnesium and Calcium, along with L-thiamine (amino acid supplement) at bedtime  will help calm and relax you,  and help you sleep better.

You have to understand that when you take opiates, they take over and block/ alter the normal functioning of your body's neurotransmitter's natural functions, and how they supply the opioid receptors. Because of this your body stops rejuvenating/replenishing these neurons and neurotransmitters, and they die off.
When you stop taking the opiate, these neurotransmitters don't just start working again instantly, first your body has to repopulate the neurons which in turn produce the neurotransmitters- dopamine, serotonin, for example- which act on the opioid receptors and keep you feeling "normal", controlling how you feel pain, your energy level, depression, sadness, anger, etc.
You feel crappy because your body chemistry is out of balance and deficient. It takes a long time for these neurons and neurotransmitters to repopulate and get back to normal again. On average, it take about a month for them to reach 45-50% of normal, and up to nine months to a year to reach 100% normal.
This also depends on diet, and whether you have all the nutrients in your system that these protein cells, neurons and neurotransmitters need to repopulate and produce sufficient quantities of the required body chemistry. Paying attention to diet  and eating foods that promote this "healing" will speed up this process.
There are also amino acid supplements that you can take that metabolize into the neurotransmitters you are lacking, such as dopamine and serotonin, that help  you feel better while you are waiting for your body to repair itself and produce these neurotransmitters on it's own.

There is a link at the bottom of the page to another page called "the amino acid protocol". Please read it, and also take note of  the vitamin supplements recommended on the page, as well as the cautions, and doses  recommended. Always start with the lowest dose, and remember that just because a little makes you feel better,  more doesn't necessarily mean you will feel even better.

These simple natural supplements DO work, and will make quitting a little  more comfortable.   Getting through the primary withdrawal symptoms is only part of the battle, staying quit while you are waiting for your body to heal from opiate use is another. Making this process more tolerable will go a long ways towards your success.

There are  plenty of people here who have used these supplements and had very good results, and will be more than happy to tell you what worked for them if you have any problems.

I haven't tried anything except hot showers and gatorade( boyfriend says that helps) but the aches and chills and restless legs are killing me the most. It's making me irritable and then making me cry for being irritable with my kids..I just want to take care of them feeling normal and happy again..but I'm so far from that its ridiculous. I have no desire to do anything I'm just doing the necessary..which is taking care of the boys..that's all I have energy for :(

Hey, I'm on my 3rd day of WD's from tramadol...I feel crappy but ok. I have a sinus infection too so not sure what's going on with me. I know some people have posted about melatonin(spelling) vitamin that helps you sleep. Maybe that'll help. Our emotions are tore up from repressing them with pills for so long. I know this will be something I never put myself through again....haha I'm cryin typin so right with u on the emotional part. I take 2 thermacare pads and and wrap them around my calf's and that seems to help my legs. Are u takin vitamins? I never believed it but some of the amino acid vitamins on the right side of this page help. i've been making myself get up and clean and take care of my kids and it's actually helps...makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something.
If u ever need to talk message me...tramadol's a narcotic pain pill too so we're probably going through the same thing.....good luck!
