detox from Morhine Sulfate 15mg 2x a day

Hi, I hurt myself over 3 years ago and have never been really diagnosed. I was given tramadol, still on and the last 3 months morphine sulfate er. It did help a lot, but I decided I don't want to be on it. On my own, I cut the 2nd dose in half. I am also taking valium. I want the morphine out of me. Can anyone come up or knows a plan to get off of it?
I tried 1/4 for the 2nd dose one day and really felt the detox and went back to 1/2. Any ideas? When I think about it, it is pretty crazy for a doctor to give it and not explain but I didn't say much because at the time I was in pain. It has bloated my stomache also. I really want to get off of this and work on the other drugs ones at a time.
Thanks

how much morphine are you takeing per day?  since you cut the eveing dose in half..try cutting the 1st dose in h;af.  detox is painful...even tapering cuz you denying your body what it wants.  i really think you should find out why you are hurting.  i cant imagine a DR giving meds 3 years with out a diagnosis...thats crazy...could be something that c ould be fixed easily.  as far as the trams go...you should never taper them slowly...withdrawal from them can cause seizures....i am shocked at a DR giving these meds with out finding out whats wrong.  i think maybe a new Dr is needed.

Your taking Morphine time release you should not cut in half... Also taking Valium , Tramadol and your stomach is swelling My advice would be to go back to your Dr. tell him you want off the Morphine get your Liver checked out as it could be enlarged... I would also talk to him about the Tramadol as it is not good for long term pain.. You will need to taper off the Valium he/she could also help you with this.. You will receive support here on whatever choices you make.. I wish you well lesa

Thanks to all who took the time to post. To Cathy, I wrote how much I was taking. I was given 15mgs 2x a day. I know you aren't suposed to cut the pills but with such little morphine, it doesn't make a difference.
My stomache is not that swelled, but I noticed since I had been so thin that it looked bigger since the last month or 2 and I have been on the morphine about 3 months.
I had an mri, it does say bulging disks, stenosis but I have leg pain ever since I pulled my back and not one doctor says that they can do anything but give me pain pills. I may not be a candidate for surgery on my back but I was thinking maybe it was myafacial (sp)--I don't know and no doctor has helped.
I just know right now I want to get off the morphine. I would say I am down to about 13mgs.
I am taking one issue at a time and will be changing doctors.
I take about 250mg of tramadol and about 10 mg valium--nothing that is out of range.
I never heard tramadol not being good for long term pain, that is why this doctir probably gave me the morphine, because it is er and does help.

I took 3/4 of a pill in the am and 1/2 at night, so far, so good.

I believe that if you can find a doctor who can give you suboxone that should be easier to taper but you have to stop all the other opiates. If your pain requires you to take an opiate and you just want to get off the morphine you can probably switch to either vicadin or percasettes However they are as addicting as morphine....The state of pain relief is not very promising when you can't or won't consider opiates, but your doctor should find one or more which you can tolerate better than morphine which is one of the more powerful ones. I don't know why you want to get off the morphine but I guess that you can't function well on it. It's sedating(euphoric) effect is probably one good reason( and the constipation I'm sure). There are other pain meds, like above that don't have morphines side effects. Talk to your doctor....and let me know   Tom

I can tolerate the morphine. I am on a very low dose. I just don't want the drug in me. I've been on other pain pills, they made me sick. I'm trying to get off because I don't want it in my body and right now, my pain hasn't been so bad. I don't think it's a great idea to be on a drug long unless really necessary. I don't think it's necessary right now, that's why I want off. The longer I'm on, the worse it would be and if I'm not feeling bad with less, that says something to me.
Thanks.
