detoxing from methadone
I have been on methadone for 3 years for a 2 year addiction to oc's going cold turkey need any info you guys might think helpful already bed riddin and I have 2 kids
Iam getting ready as of today to detox. Im really scared. I have a bag methadone habit Iam prscribed 90mgs a day but take about 30 10mgs a day. I have only 20 tablets left and they are 10mgs. what do i do. i have kids and REALLY want off this stuff. what should i do. do i need md help or rehab or what i have no answers.
laural i am unsure what you are asking me, i see my name on your post, i would like to answer any question you may have, i work as a medic in a detox facillity, if i do not know the answer i can ask the doc......
I am still clean at almsot 2 years from a methadone habit that got kicked cold turky....tapers didnt work for me - and a good methadone taper is a long term investment. It was much faster to go cold turkey - with the amino acids especially. It did take me about 6 months to get halfway right though ---- no way to do this without a little discomfort. Not the worst thing I ever did though .......
correction. i'm not sorry to read it, but to know about it after being 15 days clean ct, that thing ... ... casue there is no backwards for me, no wayyyy, i feel better about myself than in the last years even with wds and everything.
i try to take what i need here in the forum and leave the rest, but it's going to be hard that one about going ct is wrong in the long term...yeah, sorry to read it. Is it possibly right ?

your family will heal, methadone addiction took everything away from me, including the will to live
i found the help that i needed in na, i got my family back through working the steps
i know you are very sick right now and getting dressed for a meetging is the last thing on your mind
so just hang in there, keep posting, and do the best you can with your family,
recovery is about progress rather than perfection,
methadone detox is a long process, so give yourself a break and ask people to help oyu with day to day things, such as kids, house, homework
when i was detoxing i found it helpful to rent movies and play video games i did not sleep for 3 weeks
most of the people i know in na and at work agree that it is best for the addict to feel horrible during their detox
it is a reminder of how bad like will get should the person get back on opiates
think about it,, if everyone had a cushy taper,, then no one would fear relaspe
when i tell someone i wish them a long hard detox i am doing it out of love
ct detox does work, after this you will get your black belt!!!

I have to go cold turkey when you taper it takes too long methadone has already messed my body up! Im tired I have muscle weakness, and excessive sweating among other things all before i started detox and even if i come of 10mg it would be close to the same as a higher... i've tried it. messed that up but now i feel more prepared in everyway I will do this. I dont want my kids asking me next summer if I still loved them because I never go anywhere with them anymore
Bravo and I'm not trying to play DA but I'm talking about years clean, not days or weeks or even months. I'm not trying to DIS courage CT either, I've just never in my years (12, and 6 LMHC/SAS/naturopathy seen it stick long term. I've always wondered about the inability of endorphins to re-generate and stick to receptors if cold turkey allows depletion or levels to drop so low that it lengthens and hinders the process. I am no chemist however and just want the best, most successful outcomes for everyone without further abuse of the body. Again, please post more successful CT stories with years clean, I'd appreciate it and obviously by the strong and quick response, need it!
Man I so agree with you BOTCHED..I don't get putting yourself AND the kids thru the torture..but that is MY OPINION. I have never looked at methadone as something negative, just a tool to help me move on with my life and I have a very good one. I wish you the best of luck, I think CHINESE TORTURE would be easier for me.

i have been clean from a ct detox off 250mg of methadone and a large benzo addiction for 4 yrs
i am also a women
in na we talk all the time about detox options, i also help people here and on another forum set up taper plans, so i am around this topic alot
i guess it depends on the patient and how bad they want to stay clean
tapers did not work for me because i always gave in when i got down to my last dose
i would rather get it over with them have a long and drawn out taper plan
but i always support the addicts descion and help them with their choice
for example if jeeni wanted to taper i would help suggest a taper plan, but she want to go ct, so i posted ideas that may help her through that
addicts do not do well with statistics, some do well with a taper some are better off jumping and never looking back

i detoxed cold turkey off a huge oxy habit and i snorted them....i will tell you it was hell for a couple weeks but i am over 300 days clean and i am not going back.....it does work if you are determined. i had no colonidin or "help" meds.
I find it interesting that seemingly men support cold turkey and women are more likely to support a slow taper. Is it physical strength difference?? Hormones? I would never tell anyone to quit anything cold turkey. Especially something with that long of a half life. I wonder what the stats of relapse are regarding cold turkey vs. slow taper. Not to mention that cold turkey on half life drugs can have devastaing and long lasting physiological/mental effects. Hope it works for you. I guess sometimes further abusing your body tends to teach some a lesson??? I've never known anybody to stay clean after cold turkey however I'd love for that to change.
I fully agree with mtgoat. You should also look at the right hyand side of page - under the health topics - find the Thomas Recipe and the amino Acid Protocol. Then try and follow them. Both are very good. Keep posting with questions or for support........and best of luck to you. I quit a methadone dose cold turkey. Not much fun - but neither was the hospital trip that methadone gave me.

there is no better gift than freedom from active addiction
goto an na meeting, if you are too week to drive, call the hotline, they will send someone to get you
or ask a friend
if there is anything you need please let me know, i have detoxed off almost every opiate out there, methadone took me down hard and fast
on the days you cant do it for yourself, do it for your kids
set up a plastic chair in the bath tub, get in the shower several times a day for pain
you can use a short acting opiate to aid you during detox
if you start throwing up green stuff (bile) you will need to call 911
i commend you for your courage to go ct, it took a long time to start feeling better after methadone, you can do this, i kicked at 250mg a day habit ct, and never looked back
