detoxing methadone coldturkey

I have 20 mg left of methadone and then I plan on detoxing I'm scared to go through the withdrawls every other time when I tried to kick opiates I relapsed a few days into it so I never experienced the severe symptoms. Any advice for quitting cold turkey and still maintaining a somewhat functional life?

Hi I just read your story.  I wouldn't do that ct.  I too am coming off of methadone.  It has been almost 3 weeks. Have gone to a dr. that has tapered me down slowly. I was at 82mg. now at 10mg. It has been tough, but I know people that stopped ct and had seizures and heart attacks, some die. Please do it safely.  I tried to go down faster than the dr said and it set me backwards a day. I wanted to get it over with. I am back on track now. As I said I am at 10mg. It does get harder at the end. And I can't wait to be over it. Good luck, and please be safe about it.

i commend you on wanting to do this cold turkey...but at the same time i'm thinking "are you crazy?"  LOL!!  (just a joke hun)  i too was on methadone...30+ days of withdrawals? it is not necessary to put yourself through this, and  i couldn't do it...no way was i strong enough, and i failed too many times at it, i was nothing but a big disappointment to myself every time i failed...check out what snowtard is telling you...this is what i did...suboxone.   it was still somewhat of a battle, but oh so worth it...and NOTHING compared to cold turkey...do some research and think about it...if you have any questions..let me know...

please dont go cold turkey off methadone, thats not safe at all, you need to go to the doctors, really. go to www.suboxone.com and type in your zip code call the dr as soon as you can, DO NOT GO COLD TURKEY OFF METHADONE PLEASE. you need to take the sub to get off methadone.
