detoxing off lortab/vicodin

Hi All,
I am currently detoxing off of Lortab/vicodin.I was buying them off the internet, from a really "nice" Dr.-who also supplied me with Xanax. I ran out of the Xanax a week ago and I knew I was running out of Lortab last week, so I went to a Phychciatrist (sp) and got a script for suboxone.
Not realizing I was in withdrawal from the xanax, I have taken half the dose prescribed of suboxone, and still have been sooooo sick and nauseated  from the suboxone.  I called the shrink- he said the suboxone was making me sick becaue of the xanax withdrawal?
It has been been one week off the xanax and 84 hours off the Lortab/vicodin. I can't even put into words what a nightmare the last week has been! Although I have done alot of soul searching and think, for the first time, I can clearly see my addiction and how it has affected my life.
I haven't told anybody ( I know I need to). I am feeling all the aspects of shame, disgust, and, "what was I thinking?" I guess my question is- where to start? Wasn't crazy about this shrink, should I go to more of a clinic? Who should I talk to first? Sorry this post is so erratic. Any help would be so appreciated.

Hi.., welcome. First of all.... There are lots of us here to help you. Second of all, it would be best if you start a new "thread".,, meaning, click on "post a question". Your plea for help is attached to a question that was from 2008. Last of all.... Yes! We can help you. You've come to the right place... The best way I found to do it (for me), was to do it cold turkey. For the opiates, which Lortab is, you can do this on your own. You will need to take a week or so off work.... You will feel horrible but you'll get better every day after the 3rd or 4th day. Taking the pills every day is just prolonging the agony, truly. There are so many people here who will talk you thru it and tell you things to ease the agony. I did it..,  if I am do it, you can do it. I was taking a lot of lortab every single day for 5 years. It was insane.... I feel sooooo much better and I have real things wrong with me! The pain will decrease once you're done detoxing... Believe it!!!! Keep posting. You can do it

Hi Scared, and welcome to the forum! You will find lots of advice and support here. You've done a great job tapering down the Lortabs. If you can continue tapering, you will minimize the withdrawal symptoms. This is a very old post. If you make a new one, you will get lots of support. Just go to the top of this page and hit the "Post A Question" button on the right side. Then, you can copy and paste your question or just write it again. We can help you get through this! Take care, and please start a new thread.

It could be that you are not taking the right dose of Suboxone, too. Sounds like you may need more. There are several here that know about suboxone. Hopefully they will come on.

I believe Mikewith family is right, you need to be in an advanced stage of w/d in order for the Sub to work...something to do w/ the receptors in the brain. Otherwise you feel have even more magnified w/d symptoms and feel very, very sick. Were you already a week out off the xanax & 84 hours off lortab when your treatment on Sub started? That seems like it be a sufficient amount of time to be in a late w/d stage. Or are those times off the meds already including when you started on the Sub? It can make a difference. You should find out from your doctor what to do if your treatment was administered too early. I've also read where someone was told by her dr. to keep the sub under the tongue to let it dissolve. For some reason, this was really helpful.

Welcome to the forum Riverwalk, This is a great place to start and many members will assist you. Many of us have been where you are right now. I came here seeking help and so many people reached out to help; it was amazing and encouraging. Whatever gameplan you/we come up with, just remember that you can do it, we all have and coming to this forum is very therapeutic.
Regarding how you feel, the shame, disgust; that is a normal response. As one of the members pointed out to me early on, don't be too hard on yourself. YOu did not set out to become addicted to the painkillers, it happened is all. Now that you admit the problem, then use your energy in a positive way and focus it on your treatment plan...it made great sense to me and that is what I have been doing since I was told that.
By the way, My name is MikeWithFamily. I was using about 30 vics a day until I realized I needed to do something about it too. I went to my family doctor who just happened to be licensed to treat and issue Suboxone. He has been fantastic and has been helping me along the way. I am two weeks into my treatment and I feel fantastic. I feel tired (which I think is from the Sub), but other than tired, I feel fantastic and can actually work thorough the day as if it was a normal day....only without the Vic! I don't think Suboxone is supposed to make you sick. I'll tell you what my doctor told me before he had me take the Sub. He said I need to be in withdrawal before starting to take the Sub. I had to be into it at a certain stage before taking it so what he did to determine how far into the withdrawal I was, is he had a bunch of questions that I had to answer. All of the answers had a value placed next to them. When he was done asking questions, he added up the values and then compared it to a chart. Depending onwhere you land on the chart, dictates whether you are far enough into the withdrawal process or not. I was far enough into it so at that moment I took 1/2 of a 8oz tablet and that was the beginning of my treatment. I tell you all this so you know how I was treated and compare it to how you have been treated. Not to suggest anything less than my experience is wrong, only that I think my Doctor was meticulous and careful before starting me on the Suboxone. I have never felt sick or nauesiated though. I was told that if you are not far enough into your withdrawal that the suboxone can make you very sick.....perhaps that is whats going on. You should check in with the doctor that prescribed you the Suboxone and find out if that is what is making yiou sick. Keep posting Riverwalk and let us know how you are doing. If you need anything else, let us know and as a group, we'll see what we can do to help you.

You still have a ways to go with the lortab WDs. Are you doing okay with that? You should be over the xanax WD's so just lortab left. There are NA meetings in every city that is an option any counselor or another Phyciatrist if you feel you need to talk with someone. We are glad you are here there are lots of people here with experience and knowledge of what you are going through.
