diphenhydrmine

by h2o4, Aug 02, 2007 03:30PM
Over the counter sleep aids with the active diphenhydramine. I have been told you can’t get addicted and will have no withdraw from them. I think I’m a prime example of the addiction! I have been taking them for about 2 years. They started with 2 a night then 4 then 6 then hay if I pop 2 in the morning “crazy” it wakes me up and gets me going. I can easily take a box of 24 in a day. I have tried a number of times to stop then with in 24 hours I start feeling sick and just wacked out. The wacked out feeling was about same feeling as being on them years ago. I hate being on them but cant seen to stop. Is this an addiction that I just have to stick through the withdraw and get over it. Or at this point should I see someone about this? Is there any harmful causes I could have done to my inner body taking these, heart, stomach, liver and so on? And could these problem happen with the stop of use?

gosh i'm sorry, it looks like you got lost in the shuffle here..

i'm sorry i don't know anything about this stuff...  this can't be good, though.  i would suggest you call a couple of pharmacists - anonymously if you want - and ask them about it. see what they say - they should know.

and if you are comfortable enough, call your doc and talk about it.

sorry, i just don't know anything about it..

good luck to you...

yup same anwser where ever i go..anyone else.

Anonymous is why im still stuck and i dont want to have something like this written in the books to say i guess. i have spoken to a few Doc's about it online and its not me deals and get nothing. I feel like I am the first human to smoke pot, nobody knows anything about it. Isnt diphenhydramine a ingredant that is in Benadryl and other meds that they have moved behind the counter. Its just a antihistamine, right?

honestly, i just don't know anything about it.

but.. i would say, like most other addictions/pills - even tho you "can't seem to stop" - get support - N/A - whatever, in order to stop.

taper down.. then stop.

easier said than done, i realize.  but maybe support - meetings, counseling - something - can help you get there.  regardless of whether you know exactly, medically, what would happen c/t.  since you don't know - then you gotta try to taper.  and get some sort of support to get you there...

i wish i knew more to say... other than it CAN be done. and yes, you can assume you are definitely harming your body taking that much.  so do whatever you can to get off of them... anything and everything, ok?

i wish you very, very well...

you are not alone!!  I've been taking over the counter sleepy med's for 5 yrs.  It started with taking 2 about 20 minutes before bed and now I'm ashamed to say I'm taking at least 10 per night.  I know this isn't healthy but yet I still do it.  I've tried to stop taking them but by 10 at night I start popping them.  I'm trying to taper off but the chest pain is so great...and all I want to do is grab a handful of pills so I can just fall asleep...so here I sit and it's 1 am.  I'm so ashamed!! I feel so lost...I don't even know if withdrawal is possible or if this is all in my head.  I don't know where to go to get help, I'm scared my doctor is going to be upset with...and I feel so stupid...I need some advice...
