does oxycontin really stop pain, and can u go c.t.?

by kittykat58, Apr 10, 2008 04:52PM
2 questions --

1) I was put on oxycontin after my percocet use got to 8 tabs (5/325)/day -- and oxycontin never gave me as good a pain relief as the percocets. I had days when I was almost completely pain free with percocets (combined with an anti-inflammatory), and with the oxycontins (plus the same anti-inflammatory) I take more mgs/day, got more dependent on this higher dose -- and never had the same quality pain relief I had with the percocets. I just got stoned on the oxy it seems, like I was more disconnected from the pain -- very different than what I had with the percs. I talked with my doc about it and he is so against percs, so it was not an option to just go back to the percs an the anti-inflammatory.

I just wonder if anyone else found the same thing?

I also would like to know other's experience with ct from oxycontin. the taper I have started feels like slow torture, and I'm very tempted to just go ct to get it over with, or at least drop down much more quickly and then go ct. I'm just so sick of obsessing over it and having cravings....

I am taking 90 mgs oxycontin/day and am currently tapering off the 20mg percocet/ay I was taking for bt pain.

is there anyone out there that can comment on going ct off of 90 mgs/day oxycontin, from personal experience?

To: They are both oxycodone
They are the SAME drug, youlike the Percs better because they are fast acting and hit more quickly Oxycontin is time released percocet
see description form Wikipedia below

Percocet tablets (oxycodone with acetaminophen) are routinely prescribed for post-operative pain control. Oxycodone is also used in treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain. Both immediate-release and sustained-release oxycodone are now available (OxyNorm and OxyContin). There are no comparative trials showing that oxycodone is more effective than any other opioid.[
