does the brain ever heal from vicodin addiction

does anyone know if the brain ever heals from vicodin addiction? i took it for 2 years, through the many back procedures i have been through. i have been living with severe back pain for over 20 years. i was never told how addictive the pain medication could be. i have been off of vicodin for 2 months, but still get the cravings and have no desire and no pleasure of any kind. any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated!!!

HI /.......yes you do heal but it takes some work.....you need to put some of the things back into your system that the drugs drew out namely amino acids ....if you go to the lower right of this screen you will find the amino acid protcal go a head and pick up the supluments listed you can find them at gnc or other healthfood stores......if mony is tight go to walmart and pick up a 2lb can of whey protein shake mix it will only run you 15 bucks if full of amino acids as well as vitamins along with the protein all of witch the brain needs to heal the chocolate flavor is good and you just mix a scoop with milk drink 2 a day for the first month if not better keep it at 2 a day otherwise you can drop down to 1 this stuff should be on everybodys detox list for at least 3 mo its a cheep way to get the building blocks to brain chemistry if you can aford the amino separately go that rout other then that it just takes time 90 days is realistic for a 2 yr habit if not better by then see your doctor to mabe go on an antidepressant for a wile good luck to you on your recovery congrats on your clean time God bless....Gnarly

thank you for the words of encouragement, and yes i am a Christian and i sometimes faulter in giving everything to God. i do dwell on the past way to much, i know everybody has their own crap that has happened in their lives, but when one of your children dies, and then have to fight an addiction, it gets a little overwhelming. i always thought that i was pretty tough, but i feel very weak. please continue communicating. i really do appreciate it!!

Welcome,

Congrats on 2 months.   All I can give is my opinion as I am not a doctor:

The brain sometimes needs medication.  It is up to the brain to heal the spirit.  Because people can't see it the sometimes forget that it is there.  It must recover along with you mind and body.  Think about the great things you have done in your life as being done by your spirit and the bad things as being done by your mind because your spirit was damaged.

That is an overly positve way of saying the amount of time it takes you to find desire and pleasure seems long but when you get ready to make the change and do the work you will realize at some point your recovery started in a split second  and when you finish the work your life will start over in a split second... Here is a couple of scenarios I like to use:

What if I walked in with a gun and told you that I was going to kill you in 5 min.  The 5 minutes is not a lot of time but I told him I guarentee you that if you didn't forgive everything and find the will to live in 4 min 59 sec I bet the last second before I pull the trigger you will.

I know it sounds morbid but if you stop thinking about how long it could take you to get better and take 5 min to really think about what you want out of this life and the steps you could take to get there you could feel better.  If you are religious it may help to think that God forgives everything.  If you are spiritual it will help to know that the people you come in contact with especially the "normal" people start a conversation most of the time to get reassurance they are normal or they want help.

Your life is a book.  You have stopped writing in it because you keep going back and reading through the chapters trying to understand how to start the nest chapter.  You can go back and look at the things you have done wrong or wish you had done.  The worries and fears are written in pencil and the great things about you that you wouldn't change are written in ink.  You are allowed to go back and erase the bad memories and rewrite them in a way that makes you feel better.  These bad memories have to be looked at in a positive way.  If you isolate and dwell on one thng at a time you can likely write a positve reponse and move on.  If you do it enough you will be able to close that chapter of your life and start writing again

Good Luck

Yes your brain will heal as it's an amazing organ. It takes time for your brain to re-wire itself but it will happen. You should try to get as much exercise as you can possibly stand as it will jump start your endorphins ( the chemicals that make you feel well). The cravings should go away if you are only dependent, but only you will know whether you are dependent vs addicted.
