doing okay so far...

I think this is day 4 off Hydrocodone and I'm doing okay so far.  I was on 4 hydros a day for severe hip arthritis, which isn't much compared to the high doses I've seen from some, but I was on it for a couple of years.  Incidentally, I always obtained my meds legally from one doctor, a pain specialist.  A few times I ran out of my prescription a few days before I could refill it though.  Not fun.  If I hadn't had a hip replacement I would be in a wheelchair right now.  As for the withdrawals, I have tramadol for the aches, but I'm only taking one or two a day.  I've only been taking those for a few days.  Honestly, I don't think they make much difference at all.  I feel very lethargic and really wanna lay in bed.  My hubby will rub my back a little, but he really doesn't "get it."  About a month from now I'm scheduled to have a hysterectomy and my pain specialist said I may indeed need more pain medicine than an average patient because I was on hydros for so long.  Not looking forward to lying in a hospital room moaning in pain.  I went through that for my hip replacement.  The pain meds they gave me the first 48 hours after that surgery were totally inadequate and all I did was moan and weep.

I'm having a complete hyesterectomy.  And since I've never had children the surgeon can't go in vaginally.  So, I'll have to have a bikini line incision from left to right.  My surgeon also told me I'd be in the hospital 2 days.  I was in the hospital about 4 days for my hip replacement.  That was the worst pain of my life!  And nothing but hydrocodone would take the pain away.  I'm so afraid my pain won't be managed well after the surgery.  And knowing the ONLY thing that will help my pain is hydrocodone, I may have to go back on it, at least for a few days when I'm recovering from the surgery.  I don't want to get hooked on it again though.  Incidentally, I've noticed I've felt anxious today and I've also noticed going from either hot to cold.  I can't seem to get comfortable.

First of all your on day 4 so you should be rounding the corner very soon .If the tramadol is not working stop taking it now WD from it is far worse then hydro's .
What type of hysterectomy are you going to have ? I had mine about 5 years ago .The first 6 hours after were the most painful I had to stay 2 days I was able to go home without any pain meds so maybe it wont be as bad as you think .I here they have been coming up with newer ways to do them that the pain level is less .. I will keep my fingers crossed for you .
Hang in there and keep posting
