feeling tired all day

by mnm6677, Feb 27, 2007 12:00AM
Ok well Im have been very tired the past few months. I have been going through some stressful events. For the past year I have been drinking heavy, most often right before bed. I find that it helps me sleep however wake up in the middle of the night needing some water. I also have been a heavy pot smoker for many years, all day every day. I dont exercise that often but eat fairly well. Do you think this combo could be the cause of feeling tired all day? Im up late at night and sleep til the afternoon and still need a nap in the afternoon. I used to be able to handle it but now its tough to get back on track. Any ideas how to get back to a normal sleep routine? Does the pot and beer effect my sleeping pattern? Thanks for your help. Im kinda lost as to how to get back on track.

ok I think Im getting an idea how to work with this. How about the lack of exercising, would this effect how I feel?

There's a lot of people out there that say exercise actually gives you energy ... try it as an experiment and see what happens, just make sure that you keep "all else equal", (i.e. do everything else the same for a month except add a 20-minute daily exercise routine) and see how you feel.

Thats a great idea Im going to start on Wednesday. Again thank you for your input.

Drinking before bed and smoking pot throughout the course of the day is actually a recipe for being tired and requiring naps.

I smoke my fair share of pot and am a casual drinker now.

I suggest vitamin B-12 for energy throughout the day and melatonin at night to establish a normal sleep pattern.

You can purchase both these over the counter at almost any place with a pharmacy for under $10.

Thanks for the reply. I will look into both of those. I think my daily vitamin has b12 in it. I will certainly look into the melatonin for my sleep pattern.

Smoking pot regularly eventually made me pretty tired and lazy. Combine that with alcohol, a depressant, and yes, I can see how you might be tired.

Do you have any motivation to cut back. If I had to choose, I would cut the alcohol first. Just my personal preference.

Ya I want to cut down. I will likely start with the beer and I have cut back a little. I have gone from drinking 6 beers a day to 4.

Drinking alcohol before you go to bed makes your body work twice as hard to rid itself of the toxins so your body doesn't get much rest. This could be why you are so tired. It could also be the lack of fluid intake, water, Gatorade, ghetto pop, whatever you fancy but that might also help give you a little more energy especially if you wake up in the middle of the night thirsty, your body is trying to tell you something.

I didnt even think about the fluid intake. With it being winter I dont drink as much fluid as I do other times of the year. I'll have to start drinking more water. Thank you for your input.

Yes, that's very good and I forgot about that. When I drank heavily, I often got really thirsty and was clearly dehydrated.

If you can, try to avoid alcohol and instead drink water or gatorade right before bed. Maybe have a drink or 3 at 6 pm, then be done.
