future pain and narcotics?

I have been wondering: After I am clean, what happens if I have an accident or dental work or something that requires pain meds???  Will a carefully managed prescription cause relapse or should I stay away from it all together?
Just thinking about this because I have developed a really bad toothache in my front tooth (where I chew my oxys, probably a cavity from that) and everytime I breathe in the air hits it and it feels like it goes down to the root.  What do I do????
I haven't quit yet, but plan to go c/t on Thursday.

if you have a tooth ached and it's just a cavity then you should have that filled. You will not need any pain pills for that. They don't usually give pills for a root canal if it's that bad.
I wonder the same thing. If I have surgery or in a accident can I take pain pills regular dose and not be right back to WD's. I was planning on having some plastic surgery but I'm going to put it off longer. I'd like to have 6 months past me and I only have 3 weeks. Hehehe

I kinda think the biggest danger lies in falling in love with the high again.  I think with a normal script for something routine or even an accident or something it would not produce w/d's if it was over a short period of time.   But I don't trust myself to say "ohhhh, I forgot about how good this felt!" and try to get more.
So how do you feel at 3 weeks???  Is it still rough mentally? How is your energy level?
CONGRATS ON 3 WEEKS!!!
p.s. depending on what kind of plastic surgery you are planning on having there are new ways of doing some procedures that are non invasive and don't require patients to use pain meds strong than tylenol/ibuprofin.  Maybe research that on the internet some.

I'm doing great mentally and physically. I have started back  jogging/running three miles a day and mentally I feel so good. I'm happy and normal feeling. No ups and downs.

That is very encouraging to hear!!! From what I understand, exercise really helps.  A natural high!  Once I get over the w/d process I am going to start my exercise routine again as well.
I can't wait to just be normal again!

I have had the same question...many here believe that as an addict we can never take opiates....will put us right back into our addiction....but my concern is the same. What about surgery...post op pain is quite intense?  Maybe just immediate post-op when anesthesia administers the pain meds and then NSAIDS and Tylenol? I don't know...I just know that I can't EVER take them because I tried going back two times before and was in full blown addiction within the week!  Any other thoughts on this?

Great job H3 girl....are you feeling better now.  It is a tough road but so worth the effort!

Yeah, I am just concerned about the future and staying clean!  I think if I were to ever get a script in the future I would fall right back into addiction, too.
It's just that in some extreme situations that may arrise in the future, pain meds may be a necessity and then what?  Like you said, maybe narcotics for a brief initial period then nsaids and tylenol, etc.

thats why I don't like the label drug addict there are varying degrees everyone is different.  personally though if I am in serious pain I'm not going to be worried about addiction why suffer.  thats why its a good thing to have a low tolerance then when you need it it going to do its job.  otherwise your really out of luck when you are in a accident and what they are giving you ,you can't even feel it.
