Hey there
I really feel your pain....
I have experienced pretty intense w/d before. I think that you are in alittle over your head in what you can do on your own.I don't now much about methadone except that it's a synthetic drug.It may have a really long 1/2 life???? Either way I'm concerned really think you should go to the ER they got to tx you once they check your vital signs I bet they are not stable. You'll probably require multiple meds.Don't do this to yourself.Get some help or @ least a new plan of action like tapering down then c/t... Good Luck.
You can do it. I came off of to much SUBOXONE a couple of year ago and i felt just what you are saying. I did not know about all the dangers and i did not know about this site. After 2 weeks i was fine.
It will get better. Do not let these 9 days be for nothing.
Welcome to my world. : )
Dude, you are going about this the wrong way. Not only are you asking for a death sentence by going ct with Methadone, but you are also asking for some serious internal issues that will last a lifetime.
Do you even realize, that Methadone is harder to WD than Heroin?
Opens your eyes doesn't it?
I suppose, since you were not going to a Doc to get the methadone, you were getting it by choice for the high.
Why, if you don't mind me asking, would you choose Methadone?
Read this post, and know that there are others that are doing the same thing you are, but, they are tapering:

You are going to live in hell for quite some time since you are going cold turkey. But, you will more than likely end up in the ER. People who come off of such high doses without tapering either A. - Seizure out/Convulsions - B. Break down and use again - C. Suicide - D. Make it for some unbelievable reason.
I hope for your sake it's D.
I've been on both ends of withdrawals, heroin and methadone, every user of methadone will always tell you the same, as I do; I can kick heroin anytime, but methadone that is something else. In 10 yrs of heroin addiction, I've kicked 3 times, 'cold-turkey'. In 10 years on and off methadone I've never kicked methadone.
The assault on your body has just begun. Either go to the ER and get a Methadone shot, then they will help you find a Doc who will taper you down, or you have many days of hell to go through my friend, none of which will ever be good.
Hopefully, we will continue to hear from you. I am surprised you can even type on a computer.
Good luck, I know exactly how you feel. But, I was smart enough to get help. Oh and by the way, if you don't taper or go to the ER for help, you have a 75% chance of going into cardiac arrest like I did.

Hi Hun,
I will go look at what I wrote and re-send it.
hello, i couldn't open up the pm you posted to me yesterday because i had logged out for a nap due to extreme sleep deprivation, when i logged back on i couldn't remember my log on info., tried to reset the password without sucess, after many attemts today i established a 2nd email address and rejoined the forum under TooManyOxyz01 and wrote the acct. info down just in case i would have another memory lapse, i would still be interested in our pming each other, if you would look up your post to me and send to this address i would be grateful.
today is day #7 off oxycontin, i still feel rough, but i have thought about back using, i just hate to feel like i have wasted all this time, any encouragement/ideas would be appreciated.
let me hear from you, i have read other posts on this forum and your nickname keeps coming up as a person with alot of time sober as well as with alot of wisdom:)
fondly, Don
Well, at least it helped a bit. Nothing is going to take the withdrawal away hun. All you can do is try and make yourself as comfortable as you can.
Like I mentioned, maybe get yourself into a comfy chair and put a heating pad on your calves. Make a cup of tea and watch a movie.
I know this sounds easy, but the idea is to get your mind going in another direction. Try and be good to your body. Pretend like you have the flu and treat it that way.....
omg its so cold but im on fire. feel the same...getting worse....bath helped a tiny bit
I'll be around for the day. Post when you get back from the tub.
THanks hun...i didn't mean to knock on your x it just seems a little too fishy for him to be completely done with wds in 2 days...either way, it doesnt matter. I am on day 9 and haven't had as much luck as him and they only seem to be getting worse....hydroxyzine..? wish i could go to a doc to get that...i'd do anything for sleep right now..anything to make my mind stop running aimlessly in circles....rocking back and forth seems to help...minimally might i add....but help none the less.
I'm gonna go try the hot bath right now...if i can even get up.....when i stand up i see spots and hear ringing in my ears, my hands are shaking so badly i look like i'm suffering from parkinsons....i've had this coming though...i always thought people made a big deal about withdrawing...i just learned to deal with them....id' do oxy's for 6 months straight and than take a break and just withdraw....i'd work, walk, etc. wouldn't sleep much but it only lasted 7-10 days. i have royally screwed myself this time....had i known it was going to be like this i NEVER would have touched this stuff.....ok....here i go.....i'll be back soon.....probly like 30 mins.....please keep writing ..it helps to know there is someone out there who is listening and willing to pull me up.
It's true that the methadone stays in the body for a while, it even lies dormant in the bones, from what I was told- and YES he did withdraw for two days, only because on the 3rd day he was prescribed some type of medication for his blood pressure, which I don't think it was the Clonidine, it was something else- but he was fine after that. He's a big guy, too.. 6'3", 220lbs.. but you'd think it would stay into his system- Well, I'm not sure why, but it didn't last that long.. (then again, he may have been taking something that I, personally, didn't know about, but that was almost impossible because I was the one monitoring him the whole time- all he did was lay in bed and SIGH the entire time)
I know what you mean about the Ambien and other sleep meds- they do NOT work for me, either! I'm freakin' nocturnal as hell anyway, so it does me no justice whatsoever!
However, Vistril (Hydroxyzine works wonders for sleep whether your body likes it or not- knocks ya for a loop! lol)
I'm really sorry I can't help anymore, I'm sort of new to this stuff myself.. I've never taken methadone but I know people who have.. that's the only experience I have, however I know what they went through from being AROUND them.. Like I said, everyone is different...
You are on day 9 and you should be turning the corner any day now! You may be experiencing the worst OF the worst withdrawals right now as we speak! It peaks after so many days, then it subsides directly after it's peak.. I think you're there!
I wish I knew what to tell you. You are in a bad situation if you have no medical care so you will have to use at home sources to try and ease the discomfort. All I can suggest is hot, hot baths. Stay in there if you have to. It really does help. And, if you have rls, put a heating pad on the calves of your legs. Try sleeping sitting up in a comfy chair instead of laying down.
Let us know how you are doing. Keep posting, it does help to just talk.
Yes i should have thought this through...but i also didn't know that methadone was this hard to come off of...i've gone cold turkey off other drugs dozens of times....didn't know it was any different..hence my bein here now....
ANgel thank you for your advice, however I have to say I think it is physiologically impossible for your ex to go cold turkey and only suffer 2 days withdrawls. THe half life of it is much too long and he wouldn't even feel anything for 2-3 days....especially if he was on 50 mgs for 2 years...i wish it were true...to answer your question i cannot get to a doc to get the clonidine...i have some ambien and took some last night and the night before and to no avail. I haven't slept in 9 days.....i cat napped for 20 mins 3 times total. I had no idea the body was this capable
Some people take weeks to get thru Methadone withdrawal. It depends on your body make-up and also how long you were on it and the amounts. Like it was said, everyone is different.
I asked about the doctor also because I thought of clonidine. It will at least help with the blood pressure, which is probably thru the roof.
I feel bad for you, but you should have thought this through and weaned down. Too late now.
day 9? If you went to the ER, they may possibly prescribe the Clonidine for you to take home, or even give it to you while being there for all of your symptoms.. The Clonidine will stop the heart racing, skin crawling, gut wrenching ****! :D
I had to buy my patch- cost me $23. The medicine isn't much.. you may not even have to BUY it, they just may give it to you at the ER.. (That is, if you choose go)
See everyone's body is different- my ex's wd's only lasted two days.. that's really weird..
Let us know what you decide...
Alli
It won't last long- my ex husband was going to the Methadone clinic and getting around 60 or 70mg for 2 years, came home and went off cold turkey, withdrawals for 2 days, then gone- of course we're all different, but do you have a regular doctor??
If you DO have a regular doc, or any doc you can see like ASAP, ask them about Clonidine- They gave ME a catapres patch and there are NO withdrawals whatsoever present! also Hydroxyzine works also- it's used for allergies, sedation, etc etc..
You're going to be fine.. just keep telling yourself it's going to PASS very soon and you'll be fine! You weren't on it very long so it won't take long to get out of your system!
Keep us posted!
Alli
NO doc...i don't have insurance and I don't want ANYONE to know....I was not doc prescribed...I've gone cold turkey off of percocet, oxycontin, and vics probably 50 times.....this is 10 times worse than I could have even imagined....!!!!!! i'm on day 9......and it's only getting worse......****!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a terribly high dose to go cold turkey off of! No wonder you are coming out of your skin.
Were you doctor prescribed? Can you get to a doc? They can give you some things that will help the process a little.
Calm down...? I can't...I CANT....o my god i'm losing it.....about 50mg. been on them for 4 months straight.....how long is this gonna last....holy ****, this is gonna be tough....
Hello,
Calm down hun. I know it is bad. How many mgs are you coming off of?
