has anyone heard of Stadol nose spray

by sweetness04, Nov 12, 2008 11:34AM
My friend is 7 months pregnant and just got prescribed Stadol nose spray.  She has a known drug abuse history, and I don't think her doctors know about that.  She suffers from fibromialsia (I know I didn't spell that right) and is all the time in pain, but she was doing so good staying clean while being pregnant.  Don't get me wrong, she has tried to search while being pregnant, but has had no success until I think now.  Is it an opiate and is it addictive?  I'm sure the doctors wouldn't give her anything that could hurt the baby, but you never know.  Any kind of help would be appreciated.  I tried to look it up on the internet, but didn't find much.  Thanks everyone!

i found this on stadol and pregnancy...it is an opoid antagonist.

Pregnancy Category C: Reproduction studies in mice, rats, and rabbits during organogenesis did not reveal any teratogenic potential to butorphanol. However, pregnant rats treated subcutaneously with butorphanol at 1 mg/kg (5.9 mg/m2) had a higher frequency of stillbirths than controls. Butorphanol at 30 mg/kg/oral (360 mg/m2) and 60 mg/kg/oral (720 mg/m2) also showed higher incidences of post-implantation loss in rabbits.

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of STADOL in pregnant women before 37 weeks of gestation. STADOL should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the infant.

i would suggest she be very careful using it.

I was prescribed stadol for migraines. I would only use it when absolutely necessary if I was her.

is it an opiate?  She has known opiate addictive behavior and I just don't want her to start something again that she's done so well at staying away.  If it gives her a buzz I'm afraid she might abuse it.

yes it is an opiate, she needs to be very careful with it. If she uses it enough it will give her a buzz. I didnt like the way if made me feel so quit using it.

thank you so much for your input.  Now I need to figure out how to talk with her without offending her.  Thanks again!

I have used Stadol spray.  It takes control of your life quite quickly.  It was prescribed for migraines and neck pain(severe bicycle vs. truck--including landing on the asphalt on my head-type injuries).  Anyway, I had been on Fioricet and Norco for several years prior to being prescribed Stadol.  After 3-4 months on Stadol, it took a month to clear my head and think clearly.  There was A FULL MONTH of having a thick, hazy foggy mind when I went off of it cold-turkey. Not a good thing if she is going to be responsible for a newborn!   Do what you have to for your friend and her sobriety and well-being!   Best wishes to you and your friend...

I have had it in the past for migraines and you do get the buzzed feeling for sure. The first few times it made me sick but did help my head. I would stay away from it if she has a known addiction to other drugs.
