help! opiate addiction

I have been using opiates for 4 years now and ive just recently decided to quit 2 days ago. What I was wanting to know is how long does the mental state last? I'm severely depressed and I'm needing some hope, faith, and a real success story with opiates. Please help me. Thank you and god bless

Teeni, I'm right there with you.  I took my last 10 mg this morning after a rather quick taper, which has been pretty terrible on its own.  Tomorrow will be my first day with nothing, and I have been more frightened of the withdrawals than quitting.
I have been on two 80 mg contin plus five 10 mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain (all prescribed) for a horrible neuropathy (reason unknown), and related issues, and I am only in my early 40's.
Even that amount was never enough for the pain so I had "friends" that would get me 30-50 extra 30 mg oxycodone to supplement.  All I could think about was my next refill when they started running out, and resenting my "friend" that was keeping me supplies for a price.
So I'm done.  I've done it before, but only for a week and a half, and I was on far less then- and it was horrible. That's why I'm so scared this time.  I have my family's support, but they don't really get it, that's why I came here. Now I'm sorry, but I don't believe in god, but I believe in all of you that have made it through.  If you or anyone going through the first week like I am want to chat, please feel free to contact me.  It going to be an ugly couple of weeks, and hopefully we can all do it together.

Well the good news is you are young and you haven't been on the opiates for years and years like some of us.  The bad news is...it takes time...you need to practice patience.  No one can give you an exact timeline for when things will bounce back but they will.

My first piece of advice is that you should go to a doctor and get a full physical.  I mainly suggest this because you were snorting drugs.  This can be very, very harmful to you because we have membranes that are very delicate and can be damaged easily.  That may be why you are having migraines and all the head pain.

I'm 55 years old and was using opiates for over 10 years.  I'm 45 days clean and still having issues.  I expect to have issues for months because of the length of time my brain was subjected to the drugs.

I would think it won't take as long for you...but I am not a doctor so I can't really say.  You should improve a little bit here and there.  Your sex drive will come back BUT the pleasure portion of your brain has been screwed (figuratively) by the opiates.  Now that portion of your brain has got to heal AND learn how to work properly again without the drugs.  You used for 4 years...you can't expect repair in 4 days or even in 4 weeks.  Here is that nasty word again:  Patience

My sex drive isn't working yet, sometimes I think apple and say banana, I still have mood swings but I know these things will get better.  Things are already TONS better than they were even 2 weeks ago.  I was crying at the drop of a hat, taking offense at the smallest things, depressed constantly (to the point my doctor wanted to put me on Cymbalta).  Now I'm laughing a bit again, I'm not feeling as depressed and I'm closer to the way I used to be (I rarely took offense at anything).

Just be patient hun...you've got time to heal...but do think about a check up with the doctor...just to make sure you haven't damaged a nasal membrane or something like that.

Take care of yourself!

Also, does anyone know how long before you get your sex drive back? I've posted how much I've done and for how long in the top post. I've been doing light excercise and just now today got a natural supplement for my serotonin and dopamine levels so I can get a boost. Idk if it matters on the brand name but if it does please help me find out.

I am 21 and I have been using for 4 years. I used about 8-12 lortab 10mg a day but if I couldn't find it I would use oxy, opana, or roxy. I could only use one of those a day if that. I would never snort the lortab but I would always snort everything else. Now I feel like my nose hurts constantly and I have a migraine everyday and I feel like I have a horrible sinus infection because my head hurts so bad and my cheeck bones and gums do as well. I've been getting light excericise as well as cleaning every room in my house spotless. I'm making myslelf get up. Is there a natural supplement I can take that will build my serotonin and dopemine levels that I can't get addicted to? God bless!

Hi teeni, hang in there. Things will get better, but it may take a bit time. Take things one at a time. Try getting outside in the fresh air. That really helped me with depression, fatigue, restlessness, etc.  Also, stay very well hydrated to help flush out the toxins in your body. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing. This is a great place for advice and support. Take care, you can do this.

I think you will feel a little bit better each day.  not to say you won't have setbacks, but for me, especially when I first detoxed, the early days were the worst.  just know that it will subside by and by--that is something to feel hopeful about.  keep going!

Hi & Welcome
Age and how many years of drug/alcohol plays a BIG role on bouncing back mentally. There is alot of unbalancing that happens up stairs in our brain. Different drugs will hit different hormone/chems but most hit a few no matter what you use..The big thing is that we are low on Dopamine and this is why we can become Addicted to things. Not just drugs but Gambling, Shopping etc. So to answer you straight out it will take TIME and with TIME comes PATIENCE. Just know your Brain needs time to balance back. I have 2 yrs this month and it did take some time..BUT I came clean at the age 56 and i used off & on most of my life..I sure wish you the best and try to get all the Support you can. You might need a AD med down the road if you feel you are not coming around right..BUT due give it some time if you can. Get that Support too!!!!

I'm on day 40 and feel 300x better than I did the first week. just know that the first 4-8 days are pure hell on earth but after that.....every single day gets better. I prayed to god for healing if you believe pray for him to heal you. First thing first, I will drop some jewels on you, I found through many, many forums..... These amino acids I'm about to list, gave me my energy, pain healing and quality sleep and they are not bull crap pharmaceuticals, they are completely natural vitamins but DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THESE......go to the vitamin shop and get d-phenylalanine this will kick in within seconds and heal your pain and give u a very pleasant mood boost, tryptophan at night so u can sleep, always take a multi vitamin in the morning along with the D-phenylalanine and try to walk around your neighborhood even if its like 5 mins at a time, increasing more and more with time, this will make you feel sooooo much better. Msg me with any questions....as I have been through the stage your going through and believe me I went thru hell and I had to take care of a baby and work on top of the withdrawls, if I can make it, YOU can make it believe me!!!!

Glassguy is right.  We need to know a little more info before we can help you out.  What kind of opiates, how many per day, that kind of thing.  As soon as we know that you will have peeps popping in here and giving you all sorts of info and advice.  If it is the middle of the night and not many here...read other postings while you are waiting for a response.  It helps to know you are not the only one feeling that way!
