I took tramadol daily for the last month or so. just got a Rx for Zoloft for postpartum depression. how long before the tramadol is out of my system and it is safe to take the Zoloft?

I agree with luvdolphins....I use my local pharmacist for LOTS of med questions.

The Tramadol has an SSRI (anti-depressant) in it, that is why you don't want to take the Zoloft along with it.  

If you've taken the tramadol daily for a month, you might have mild withdrawals from it, but I dont' think it will be too bad.

thank you. I don't need the tramadol. I will stop taking it and ask the pharmacist how long before I can take the Zoloft. I'm glad I actually read all the fine print when picking up the Zoloft today!!

I normally ask my pharmacist what i can take with what. Including vitamins and herbs or otc. I have found they are way more knowledgeable than even Dr. But always consult medical.

Honestly,

You would need to consult with your Doctor.  I can not give you a safe washout period for the tramadol, but what I can tell you is that I would be VERY careful about dosing these drugs together due to the increased risk of serotonin syndrome.  

That is not to say that the two meds could not be taken together, or closely after another.  But with close doctor supervision.  These are two drugs you definitely don't want to mess things up with!

Please speak with your MD before starting the Zoloft.

it's an old Rx and different doc. I took the tramadol more than I needed. I just want to be safe.

Was the tramadol prescribed? If so your doc wouldn't have given you the Zoloft if it was unsafe. If it's not prescribed then I'd ask a doc to be safe.
