how do you get off of sub isnt it just another addiction for another one? how long do you have to be on that?

It depends. Some people go on the program short-term, others on maintenance.

There is a lot of controversary over whether it replaces one drug for another, and whether it is addicting.

The short answer to this question is yes, it does. Nobody is going to argue with that point. You ARE replacing one opiate with another. Now, the question really should be whether you're doing Sub as a quick taper, or maintenance like IBKleen mentioned. If it's a short taper, then the Sub is used as a way of tapering off of opiates with less withdrawals. Long term maintenance with Sub does trade one opiate for another, but the Sub takes away a lot of the abusive "lifestyle" that accompanies opiate abuse. I think both approaches are useful in their own way. But, I also think the ultimate goal should be to be drug free, whether taking Sub long term or short term.
