how do I get on suboxone

by leelee71, Mar 18, 2007 12:00AM
Hello,

I am brand new to this site...I came on it while I was researching suboxone. I am a former heroin addict with 8 years off the dope. Now I am addicted to percocets, majorly. I am really tired of this **** and I'd like my life back.

I called a few doctors that wanted strait cash to prescribe me this drug. Why? Why can't they take my health insurance? It's a lot of money for a ten day prescription, plus any other drugs they will prescribe to ease my withdrawals.

I have health insurance and suboxone is listed on the list of drugs that need to be preauthorized. Is it hard to get it authorized by insurance companies? Also, do I need to go to a specific doctor in order to have him prescribe me suboxone? I read that the doctor needs to be certified in something in order to prescribe this drug. I don't want to waste any time with this. I am broke and every day that passes is hundreds more dollars more in the hole. My boyfriend is at his wits end also.

I am so sick of this ****. Even when I have percs I am still tired. I am just barely maintaining.....

Can anyone offer me any advice or info about getting on suboxone?

Im not sure where you live, but it was cheaper in the south than I have heard others say they've been quoted.  I know they're some docs who will take insurance.  If you go to Suboxone.com and put in your zip code, you can find a doc near you.  I had to call quite a few before I found one that had a opening but they were very nice and willing to answer all questions.  I start tomorrow.  You can look back at old posts and see quite a bit about it.  I have  been trying to read all I can before tomorrow.  Many ppl here have been extremely helpful as a few of them have tried and been successful with it.  Im sure they will post to you.  Whatever you decide, I wish you the best.  I know the point you are at and I too am ready to be done and have a LIFE.  Let me know what you decide.  Take care.

Please let me know how it goes with your appointment today and Good Luck! I have to work, but I will find the time to make these calls to my insurance company first and then to the doctors I got off of Suboxone.com.  I feel some hope I just hope that Coventry covers it. If anyone has had experience with Coventry Insurance please let me know either on here or at ***@****.
Another day of scraping together percs. I have one ten for this morning.  A lot of times I trade my xanax or "borrow" some from people and return them when I get some of my own. It is just so draining and miserable. And I feel cold a lot. I am always freezing. I think my heroin addiction was a thousand times worse then this, as it had me on the streets, but these percs are kicking my butt as well. I can't even pay my bills anymore. Im so mad at myself. It took me years to restore my credit after my heroin addiction and now I see it all slipping away. I hope to get on this stuff asap.

Has anyone taken suboxone just for two weeks to detox or do you take it longer.

I have been on Suboxone for about a year and a half, I was lucky to find a Shrink who also deals with addiction and there was an opening so I jumped right on it.. My insurance does cover Suboxone and I know it's quite expensive without insurance at least in Maryland.  My Shrink however charges me $155.00 every month and he will not deal with insurance so it is up to me to deal with it.  Find someone who is supportive, Suboxone is getting more and more popular and a lot of doctors are getting schooled in opiate addiction and would rather go this route than Methadone.

HELLO PEOPLE,
I HAVE BEEN A PERCOCET ADDICT AND MY DOCTOR USED TO GIVE ME 120  EVER TWO WEEKS,  INSTEAD OF A MONTHS SUPPLY AND I WAS LOVING IT.  UNTIL  TWO YEARS LATER HE HAD CUT ME OFF.  THAT POINT I WAS LIKE OH MY GOD ,  WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO,  I HAVE BEEN TAKING PERCS FOR SO LONG.  SOMETIMES I WOULD TAKE LIKE FORTY A DAY,  I CANT BELIEVE I AM STILL ALIVE.  THE DOCTOR KNEW I HAD A PROBLEM,  AND HE WAS SO NICE AND KIND IN GIVING ME THIS MEDS.  SO I JUMPED INTO SUBOXONE,  AND TRUST ME THIS REALLY DOES HELP,  BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM IS ,  I AM ADDICTED TO THIS MEDICATION NOW.  I HAVE BEEN ON IT SO FAR FOR A YEAR AND A HALF.  I  HOPE SOMEDAY I WILL GET MY LIFE BACK,  THIS SUBOXONE IS NOT LIKE PERCS OR ANYTHING,  YOU DO FEEL NICE ,  BUT FOR A SHORTER TIME PERIOD.  IT DOES HELP THOUGH,  FOR THE CRAVING OF THE PERCS.  GOOD LUCK TO ALL,  ONE DAY WE WILL GET RID OF ALL  THIS,  AND START A CLEAN BRAND NEW LIFE.

I was addicted to hydrocodone for three years and started trying different ways to get them.I would call as many docters as I could to try and find one that would believe my lies when I woud say I needed them for other reasons then just my addiction. I't got so draining and really scary when I knew I wouldnt be able to get anymore at some point so thats when I learned about suboxone,  it really helped me and I felt no discomfort like you feel when your withdrawling. I could actually do my normal activites everyday. I have been on suboxone for over 2 years and cannot function without it. There is a catch and alot of people dont think this about suboxone but it is also very addicting and when getting off of it the withdrawl effects are just the same or even more intense as  getting off any other ellegal street drug.  I know what you are all feeling and I just pray for everyone that is in pain and I hope this info helps you make the right choice. God is looking over each and every one of you and will lead you in the right direction. You just have to give it all to him and prey for a healthy, happy life.
