how does clonidine help wds?

so that's my question -- how does clonidine help wds? and do you then have to wd from the clonidine?

I,ve been taking clonidine for my methadone detox & it.s not my drug of choice,  but it really does take the edge off, I only take 1 pill prior to betime, this helps me sleep & lowers my high anxiety. I,ve been taking it for 6 days, & spoke with my addiction specialist yesterday regarding worrys about dependecy on it, she told me not to worry about taking it for a additional 4-5 days, after that I can cut my dosage in half then stop & switch to a more natural form of sleep aid. It does lower your blood pressure, so use caution. Penelope

Clonidine helps with the sweats and GI problems with WDs..it slows your body down a bit and helps the anxiety as well...like penelope said...caution if u have low BP

Clonidine is a anti- hypertensive.  Due to the heart racing during withdrawals it helps that, it also helps other symptoms like sweating/chills, restlessness, and also can help with sleep.
