Hunter...nobody is trying to attack you here but I think I might speak for us all when I say we are wanting you to realize that you have to accept responsibility for your addiction you can't blame others...you can't blame the doctors, your parents, spouses, friends etc. We have all made our own decisions and that is what I/we are trying to explain to you. I found it aggravating as well. I try not to throw my 2 cents in very often but we can't always blame the doctors. I opened my mouth and put those pills in it time after time. I CHOSE to take more than the bottle said. The dr didn't tell me to do that by any means. He was truly trying to help me which is his job.

i can not believe that you are blaming a dr.  for giving you pills.  your key phrase being...9 called the dr and in 10 mins i had a script for loratabs.  hello, you are the one that called him.  if you didnt want them why did you call him?????  the first step in recovery is accepting responsibility for your actions.  you need to step up to the plate and do that.  stop blaming the dr, did he make you take them??? this post really agrevates me.  and joann is right....

I agree.. I have been on Subs for a few months and am trying so very hard to make this work. Now i have legitimate dental pain and I am lost. Don't know what to do?Hopefully I can take high doses of Motrin until I get this problem fixed. Just scared the heck out of me right now.  I can take any kind of pain except dental pain.  That is the worst.

my 2 cents...what is sad is that when people who are abusing drugs (which i am obviously guilty of) are ruining it for people who are having legit pain problems and need a dr's help (after hours) and the dr's have been burnt and abused by the addicts so many times by these types of patients & calls that they no longer will call in anything after hours or on the weekends resulting in patients having to go to urgent care or emergency rooms resulting in more medical bills and insurance claims in turn resulting in higher insurance premiums it is all a vicous cycle that can't seem to be stopped. dr's want to help and that is what they are here for but they don't want to fuel our addictions

(hope this made sense i am up past my bedtime....so sleepy) :)

I just read some of your other posts here and you were looking for advice to get off these drugs.  At one post you said you were on day 4.  So why don't you use this bottle of Lortab and do a taper and get off this stuff for good?

Just my 2 cents--you are playing with fire.  Life will NOT get better on these pills.  Too many people here to back me on this.

I have been on Sub for months. I really haven't seen it as being a pain reliever. My doctor says it is but it does not help my pain much at all. I was hopeful.....but really....no go.

Thank you so very much for that advice. I really appreciate it. Nothing worse than dental pain. I will take your advise. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.

Doesn' the sub have some pain relieving qualities in itself?...i guess some of it is blocked tho...dont know...just wondering?

My suggestion:

Start taking ibuprofen a few times a day - take 400-600-800mg at a time, up to 800mg every 6 hours.- max 3200mg/day and no more! Patients get through surgeries and dental work ALL THE TIME by only taking ibuprofen. Hard to imagine, I know, but I see it very often.  They don't want to take pain pills, they say....they're afraid of them or they say they just hate taking pills. They just take their ibuprofen or tylenol (in your case, the ibuprofen is the better choice for the anti-inflammotory properties) and manage. Also, they use ice or heat, whichever is recommended to them.

If you have an abscess or it is suspected that you are developing one, your dentist/doctor needs to give you antibiotics asap, which responds very rapidly to an abscess and will take the pain away - once the infection is attacked, the pressure from the pus is gone, and you feel relief. Then, if you have to have dental work done you can use the ibuprofen and ice/heat packs.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Be aware: opiate addicts tend to focus on how much pain they are in and that they can't deal with pain - but it is valuable to keep away from it altogether if you can. You can't go on a run if you don't take that first pill. And stay on your sub - it will protect you - don't start playing with the dose.

This advice is for anyone that wants to stay clean. It is my experience that if you leave that door open even a crack, you are at risk.

Good luck to everyone.

Not sure how I feel about this. I have been on Subs for a few months. I had a toothache start 2 days ago........may be turning into an absess. I called my dentist and they are getting me in at 5 tomorrow night. I am nervous as heck because dental pain is the worst pain in the world and I don't know how I am going to handle it.  I cannot take any pain killers because I am on the Sub. I am so worried that I am going to have to deal with some excrutiating pain because of being on the Sub.  Any suggestions?

Sounds like a compassionate dentist to me.  Thank God we do still have certain people in the medical profession who will prescribe meds which can provide immediate relief to someone in pain.  Most of us are addicts here - I know I sure am.  However, there are MANY people out there who aren't addicts - they're simply in severe pain, need opiates, and don't abuse them.  Why shouldn't a doctor take our words at face value - isn't that the cornerstone of a healthy doctor-patient relationship?  For those people who are recovering drug abusers, some may develop an attitude that "no one should be allowed to use drugs", or  "they should be next-to-impossible to get".  I'm not so sure this is wise, however.  Again, there are people out there who are TRULY in excruciating pain ... and sometimes they need their meds immediately.  Should they have to jump through impossible hoops simply because others out there lie, steal, etc. to get the same meds?  In short, I think the blame should be on those who are addicts and NOT the doctors who trust us.

Let me get this straight, (excuse the pun)?  You think that you have a drug abuse problem because of a medical professional who was just trying to help you after you lied to them?

Did I read your post correctly?  It does sound as if you think that the prescribing doctor/dentist is the villian here because they believed your spiel and tried to help you.

I always appreciate it when my physician helps me with a medical problem and if I abuse those medicines it is absolutely, in no way, shape or form the prescribing physicians fault.  The fault lies with me, nobody else.

Why is that Sad? The dentist was told a TaLL-Tail and gave the person in need and discribing pain a RX for what they asked for. What did that prove.
