how long???

by Rupp86, Sep 02, 2009 07:42PM
I'm sure this is a very common question, but is it better to quit cold turkey as opposed to replacing my opiate addiction with a maitnance program?  90+ mg of Roxycodone---Oxy's daily for 4 years.  And that was just to not feel crappy. During a weekend i'd easily do 210 in a night.  And how long till you get to feeling halfway normal again??? Like waking up to goto work and just not wantin to move.  I've never really tried to quit.....gone days without but never had my mind made up that i was gonna quit.  End of day one tonight, don't feel too bad but i have a feeling i havent even started the hard part yet.  Anyhow any advice helps. Thanx!!

That's a personal choice .I think maintenance is replacement one drug for another (just my opinion).I would be looking into recovery programs intensive help ,AA, addiction therapist, pastor.  Whatever works!!!! That is what is going to help you stay clean .

hey congrats on making the decision to stop! It will definitely be worth it for you, the first week or so can be pretty tough but, like you said, if your mind is in the right place, then you can do it!! Just keep reminding yourself of reasons why you wanted to stop, when things get tough. I used to have a list in my cell phone of reasons I wanted to stop and when i was out and around town and got a craving or trigger I would read the list. There is also a thing called the amino acid protocol ( i think) that has vitamins and other things to help through withdrawal, i have taken a few listed on there and it has helped. Just take it day by day, and the more days you go the better you will start to feel and soon you will be getting out of bed for work and feeling good without needing any pills to help you. This website offers a lot of support and there are people who are really knowledgeable on here that can give you good advice and really help you so keep posting!

I hope you continue to push through your dependency.I always say it is best to try to do things naturally first, then if it doesn't work- you have options. I had tried numerous times to quit my medication alone, but being in constant pain made it so hard. Now,I am on Suboxone, been on it for 2 years, still experience pain but I have a life that is manageable today. I hated taking painkillers, it was a endless nightmare! I just wish I could actually get a doctor to help with my pain.
