how to get off opiates

I am in a very tough place. I was on Trams for 2 years. During the last couple of months I been taking 1 to2 and some days 3 of OP 40. When I try to quit or have no money to buy I end up drinking and taking Bendryl just to go to sleep to avoid the WD's. I took a OP 40 5 hrs ago and I need to work tomorrow and I know how terrible I am going to feel in the AM. I don't know what to do. I have no money and I am in danger of loosing my job which is in landscaping it's  hard work and I am almost 60 years old. I really need help.

I have battled opiate addiction since I was in 9th grade. That translates to about 6 years now. Possibly longer. Can't keep track. I am very committed to being clean and staying clean. I have been told by doctors that I have fertility problems. I have parents who struggled themselves and one who still struggles with addiction. I have reached the breaking point. I have reached that point where I want nothing to do with pain killers. I want a healthy body, for the sake of carrying a baby one day. Soon. And bc I know I can do this. I am thinking of finding a local dr that will prescribe suboxone or something to help with the urges I have such as popping a handful of Percocet. Or doing 2 30mg roxys. Or my favorite, 80mg oxy ops. We are all in the same boat. Let's all help eaxh other. If you have any advice for me? I would greatly appreciate it. We ca do this guys. Won't be easy. But it can be done.

As for now... Anonymous... I guess I could use a nickname...
Instead I'll refer myself by a quote. A quote my father a 6 year sober recovering opiate and alcoholic shared with me.

"To thine own self be true"

Thank you all who read this and I hope to hear back from someone, anyone.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
"To thine own self be true"

Following your post wondering how you're doing?
Also, I work for my state's Humane Society. While the shelter itself cannot take an animal for free without you signing it over to us, some volunteers, volunteer doggy foster parents, and even some employees will sometimes! If someone came to me saying they didn't want to give up the pet but couldn't afford to have it taken care of for up to a month for a good reason like a health problem (which addiction is!), I would take in the animal and have the owner sign a contract saying if they didn't contact me by (x day) or return in (x days) that I would turn the animal over to the shelter as abandoned. If I could not do it myself, I would ask my coworkers or volunteers, as we all foster animals. So may I suggest if you want to go to rehab asking someone at your local SPCA or state humane society, or even a good shelter if they'd be willing to foster your animal for a couple weeks while you're gone. I hope all is well!

Hey you are doing great. Congrats day 2 done. Did you take less gabapentin today?
Staying  hydrated right? Lots of Gatorade to replace the electrolytes.
What is your lassie dogs name and how old is she/he?
How are you feeling?
Working through it is a good thing. When people lay around the symptoms are worse and they have more time to think about them.
Being up and moving helps to heal faster.

Thanks Debbie well made it through day 2. It was a hard day had to dig footers for a concrete pour tomorrow. It's really hard work makes me sweat like crazy so good for detox. It's tough when you have to detox and do this kind of work at the same time but it is what it is.
Take care

Keep up the fight, Michael.  I'm over 1-month clean now, and Gabapentin got me thru that first week of detox with minimal symptoms of acute withdrawal.  I've been through it before, without neurontin, and it was a lot worse.   So, maybe you can call your doctor for a refill; just be honest about what you're going through, and your desire to quit.

To be clear, though, this is not a 1-week struggle.  After that, be prepared to battle some cravings and loss of energy.  You've got to muster-up every ounce of determination you've got to make a stand and stay clean.  In the long run, you will be rewarded.

yes  the gabapentin generic (Neurontin) does work to help reduce the w/d symptoms. just be careful.

Less serious gabapentin side effects may include:•
dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, tired feeling;
nausea, diarrhea, constipation;
blurred vision;
headache;
breast swelling;
dry mouth; or
loss of balance or coordination.

if you only have enough left for 2 days at that dose then lower the dose so it will help to take the edge off for the week so you can work.
keep hydrated, that's great you have an appetite.

keep the faith and one foot in front of the other...... every journey begins with the first step... you have taken that first step.
sending lots of hope, prayers, encouragement and support,
sending the LORD's blessing upon you,
Debbie

I am also glad to hear that the gabby helped you get thru the dt's.

What about your stomach issues? Any better for today?

My doctor originally started my first script with 2 300's in the AM 2 in the afternoon and three at night for nerve pain. Thats 2100 for the first script.

This second script I have says one in the AM then three at night so it is lowered to 1200.

Your not that far off. And yes I was a bit dizzy or drunk feeling the first two to three days.

I still have not told my doctor that I have used the gabby to get off the hydros.
I don't want him to know that I was addicted. he has been on my pain fighting side for 20 years.

I am referring to Gabapentin, which is the same as Neurontin. We are talking about the same drug. Good catch, tho...

"The detox part is actually the easy part. It is fighting the beast in your head to want to use for this or that reason that is the hardest."

Yes that is the truth and the most scary parts. I truly feel that a addict brain is wired from birth in a different way than a non-addict. This wiring is the hard part cuz it's a magnet to use ...

Hi & Welcome. I have been reading your post for a few days now. I will tell you that I am 57 and have used "something" since I was 14. The oxy/hydo got me hooked to go up the latter in the 90s to the Methadone. As many of my MH friends said Support is a must. The detox part is actually the easy part. It is fighting the beast in your head to want to use for this or that reason that is the hardest.
Hydrating the Body and replenishing Vit/Min & Electrolytes deficiencies is a must during and after the detox. We have many, many experienced people on here that can give you some suggestions of what and why they use the Vit/Min they do to this day. Always remember that the biggest thing toward recovery is Time..Time is the Greatest Healer of this all. It is a lot harder on us to bounce back really quick due to our age, health and many other factors play in here too. Like how much damage was done to all of them Billions of Transmitters in our Brain. I would suggest that you do stay away from any mind altering substances so you can feel the rewards of how your Mind and Body is healing. I am very glad you decided to get your life back. Just think of how much money you can save and get your Doggie some really big Bones.I wish you the best and keep up the fight to stay clean. It is a long life process but is so worth it in the long run..
Bless

I found this on the net.

DOSE: 3000 mg oral Pharms - Gabapentin (daily)

BODY WEIGHT: 160 lb

About 2 years ago I had a 6 weeks long hospital stay and 4 intense surgeries. During that time I fell in love with opiates. I had tried every drug except opiates, and always had no real problem in controlling addiction and using them recreationally. Well after the first shot of dilaudid in the ER I realized I was in for a serious ride. 2 years later and I have tried heroin (snorting), Oxycontinx80’s (3 a day), smoking fentanyl gel (2-3 25mg patches a day), massive doses of poppy pod tea and pretty much any opiate I could get my grubby little hands on.

I have gone through the withdrawals so many times in the past 2 years; I hate them more than anything in the world. Nose running like a faucet, horrible insomnia and horrible nightmares when sleep actually comes, goose skin, shakes, shivers, insane cold sweats, restless leg/arm syndrome, crazy depression, fire cracker *** and all the other hellish things that come after a binge. It is the absolute worst thing to experience and there appeared to be nothing to make them any better other than drinking myself stupid and smoking tons of weed. Well a few months ago I found a new doctor who I wanted to be honest with, he understood my problems and prescribed me Gabapentin to help with my nerve damage.

After a month long binge of poppy tea and Oxy 80’s it was time to quit once again and get my tolerance back along with my health. The first day I woke up feeling the withdrawals very hard; sweating, freezing (it was 80+ out), running nose, cough and most of all a horrible case of depression. This time seemed different, I wasn’t ready, my mind was all messed up and I wanted to curl up and die. I took my normal 300mg dose of Gabapentin and then left for work dreading what the next 3-4 days has in store.

After about an hour or so at work I realized my sickness was not as strong as it was when I awoke. I soon had the idea of searching the experience vault for Gabapentin and came across several others who found Gabapentin to ease off the withdrawal symptoms. I immediately popped 1200mg and an hour later realized nearly all the withdrawal symptoms had faded away! It was unbelievable!

Feeling fine the rest of the day and falling asleep with no problem I awake again to feel the withdrawal symptoms, this time I popped 1500mg and an hour or so later I was feeling just fine! I took another 1500mg before bed that night and woke up feeling pretty good, so I took another dose and off to work I go being productive and talkative.

After the 4th day I stopped the Gabapentin and realized I made it through the withdrawals without feeling like pure hell for 4 days in a row. Not only did it really help with my nerve pain, it almost cured opiate withdrawals. It stopped the goose skin, the constant cold sweats, the horrible depression and somehow the runny nose and cough. I am so glad to have found this drug.

Michael,
I'm a 132lb female and I am prescribed by my Yale and Oxford educated neurologist 1,800mgs of Gaba a day. Now, I don't take it as prescribed-usually just one pill at bedtime. So, I cannot make recommendations or comment on your blurry vision (which is a concern) but I know that you can take 1,800mg of Gaba, and I know several doctors who prescribe higher doses. Google it and research what the highest dose is....

So glad to hear you made it through the first day. Godspeed :)

Yeah I know thanks for looking. If I had lots of money I would create a wonderful Place for animals to stay while there love ones are going into rehab to get well.
The world needs places like this as for many addicts their pets mean more to them than people.

Hi
Well what happens if you overdose on the Gaba...?
Yes I am very hungry but not a single WD's today. I just wonder if I can stay at this high dose until the WD's are not there to bite me? Actually I only have enough Gaba..at 2400mg day for maybe 2 days. I will take 1 800 mg pill tonight before I go to bed and then maybe see how I do in the AM and working taking less.
Thanks for all your support.

Made some calls; at least in my area (Northern Calif) there is nothing much out there that provides care for an animal that doesn't cost. The cheapest I found was a vet that charges $25 a day. But I'll keep looking. Never can tell...

hi Michael good job getting through the day. 2400mg is too much my friend. blurry vision is a sign of overdose of gabapentin. go about 1/2 of that yes you are going to feel some withdrawal. stay hydrated, drink, Gatorade, water, are you eating?
