Hello my name is Anthony. I have been on suboxone for a year now. I have used pain killers like loritab, percocet, and morphine for over ten years. I lost it about 4 years ago and I got hooked on oxy's and heroin. It took me three years just to find something that worked and that would take my mind off of painkillers. I found that in Suboxone. For me suboxone has been a life saver. It has removed the craving for pain killers. If I did not have it I would be lost. It is considered a maintenance tool. If you feel like you don't need it that's a good thing. That means the suboxone is working making you feel like you don't need anything. That is what it is suppose to do. But just like people who take crazy meds or bi polar meds and stop taking them because they think they are cured they soon realize that they are never cured. once they stop taking them they are right back where they started. I know that you want to be off everything but remember addiction is a life long problem. We will be addicts forever and may need that maintenance med. I take a third of what the doctor gives me and I still have not relapsed. I know what it is like if you take three strips a day you feel like a zombie. So I take one a day and feel way better. So I guess what I am getting at is maybe you just need less instead of none. Remember you will be dealing with addiction for the rest of your life.

Was nearly impossible for me being on 250 mg for 13 yrs then supposedly they came up with this so called wonder drug soboxon the dr had me take 4 a day then it hit me why did I go thru all that hell getting of methadone just to b chained to something eles the withdrawals of subs r just as bad but don't last nearly as long I had to go into inpatient care for the detox and there protocol was to ease u off with methadone I told the nurse to kick rocks with her liquid handcuffs I took the traditional drugs motrin ultram bentyl and clonadine I think for u inpatient is a good way to go there is no way of getting out of this without some pain I'm sorry to say but u can do it my god ur 21 u can do anything good luck

Hey there. I just detoxed from Suboxone after being on it for almost 4 years. Before Suboxone I was on heroin, methadone, and anything else I could get my hands on. I started Suboxone on 8/2mg and after about 2 years I went to half that amount. In the last 6 months I began a rapid tapering until I reached 1mg. The withdrawals were uncomfortable and lasted about 7 days. I had taken 10 days off from work to do this. I am 35 and started shooting heroin at 21. Since then I've had 2 relapses which each lasted about a year. Coming off of heroin was hell, and trying methadone maintenance was worse! Methadone withdrawals  make hell seem like a vacation. Suboxone was very mild. I experienced some sleep irregularity, mild chills and some weird burning skin sensations, all of which were very tolerable. I have been off about 30 days now, and I won't say I am the most emotionally stable, or happiest person, but I know I have gotten past the dreaded withdrawals. From past experience I know it takes time to feel normal and happy about things that you once found pleasurable. The thing I like about Suboxone is that it blocks opiates effects. 4 years of being on the medication for 1 year of relapse seems unbalanced, but it was worth it. Detox in rehab isn't the worst thing in the world. My first time in rehab was a 90 day stint, which helped me to rebuild life skills. Good luck to you, no matter which way you do it. Don't fear detox and rehab. They are there to help, not make you suffer. They also provide meds for easing you off of the opiates.

hello and welcome. good for you wanting to be clean and sober. so glad you are reaching out for help. have you been getting the subs from a doctor or from the street? you cant go cold turkey on subs the withdrawal will be too hard and long. you have to taper down, ( taking less) til you get to 0 mgs.the amount has to be decreased slowly over time.  if you go to a detox, they will help you get off them before they put you in a rehab.
when do you think you are going away?
sending prayers and support
