i have a question, i am addicted to hydro's.i have always heard that pers and tylox are stronger..Well after my surgery they gave me tylox..2 every 3 or 4 hours..It was doing nothing for my pain so i asked for lortab..Then they came with 1 7.5 every 4 hours ..i almost started crying..but even that little bit helped more then perc or tylox..Why is that..I hate what  have done to myself and when real pain comes nothing helps.

Until about a week ago, I had been taking 2 lortab 10's (hydros) per day for close to 7 years.  I had major surgery (complete hysterectomy) 3 weeks ago now.  Right after the surgery, they had to give me shots of dilaudid (a MUCH more potent painkiller) because nothing else was doing the trick.  After about 3 of those shots, I had to try the percs in order to be discharged from the hospital.  The doctor and pharmacist told me that oxycodone (found in percocet) is a stronger acting drug than hydrocodone, so that if i was used to taking the hydros, I'd probably notice a stronger painkiller in the percocet.  To be honest, I may have noticed a BIT more, but I think maybe it was because I had to take TWO percocet 5's to get relief, and that gave me 650 mg of tylenol along with the 10 mg of oxycodone -- three times a day.  Lortabs just have the 500 mg of tylenol with the 10 mg of hydrocodone (at least that was the dosage I was taking).  So, bottom line, I noticed a tiny bit of a difference, but not that much.  Percocet seemed to make me a little sleepier, but again, maybe just because my body wasn't as used to it -- as it was so used to the hydros.  I don't know if that helps you at all, but that was my expeirence with both.  Good luck!

I think the effect can vary from person to person.  My main thing was hydro, but I LOVED percs/tylox (oxycodone) when I could get them.  I think oxy is supposed to be almost twice as strong as hydrocodone.  I know that I would have taken a 5mg oxy over a 10 hydro.

However, oxycotin did hit me the same way.  I could eat 80mg oc's and they didn't do as much for me as 1/3 that mg in hydro - go figure.

My guess would be that it has something to do with variation from individual to individual in the opiate receptor sites in the brain - some brains are just better suited to get more umph out of regular and they feel ripped off when they get the premium.

In my experience - Percs are stronger than Hydro's -- atleast relating to pain. However, I *enjoyed* Hydro's more than any other medication. Percs made me kind of schizo - I couldn't shut up - I'd be in someone's office, telling myself tos top talking and I couldn't lol

Hydro's were completely different, I'd start off with that nice hot flash you get for a few minutes, than I felt calm and a bit 'floaty', I had tons of energy and felt very happy. Though, unless I took a lot, it never did anything for my neck pain.

Hell, the best thing I have every taken for my neck pain (besides tons of pain pills at once) wasn't even a pain killer - it was something called Equagesic or something like that. It's a dual purpose medicine - tranquilizer and anti-inflamitory I think.

Anyway - I feel like I'm just rambling - good luck to you! :)

Actually, I'd been told the same thing after my surgery -- that oxys were about twice as potent as hydros.  I, myself, didn't quite experience that.  A LITTLE stronger maybe (as I said, made me a bit sleepier, but maybe just because my body was more used to hydros anyway).  So, I really believe it probably has to do with what you've taken before and your own individual brain chemistry at this point in time.  Some of it may even be psychological....?
