hydrocodone vs. oxycodone

by localcelebrity, Feb 08, 2008 03:34PM
Hello all, just a quick question.  Is there any difference, as far as wd's, between oxy's and hydro's.  I've heard that the hydro's are less aggressive.  Now I know that neither are rainbows and butterflies but I wanted to know if any of you had an opinion on this. After a car accident 4 years ago I went through percocet wd's could turkey. Worst 2 weeks of my life!  Unfortunately I was put on hydro's about a year ago due to deteriorating discs and severe tendonitis/arthritis in the wrists from playing music.  I am currently on a taper program where I was taking 10+ Norco's per day and now I am down to 5-7.5's per day. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

With the taper plan you are doing the lower amount you w/d from the better. I would plan a time when you have 3-4 days free and just make the jump. I was taking morphine an vic  by day 5 I was feeling good enough to go to the gym and swim. Good luck on whatever decision you make.

Hydros will be better. The tapering will help even more. Are you going to taper more or just quit?

I want to quit c/t but after the whole oxy thing I went through, I am scared to death! My Dr. thinks the taper thing would be best, but sometimes I don't feel that me quitting is in his best interest.  I have been reading this forum for the past 3 weeks and I can't get enough of it.  Everyone is great!  I know there is never a perfect time but I have soooo much going on between work and music and my 4 year old son.....I know just excuses!  This just snuck up on me again!  I swore that I'd never do this again but look what happened!  They don't really do anything for pain anymore, I take them so I won't be sick!  I just want to be normal again!!!!!  This is a great place!  Thanks all!

well, Oxycodone is a more powerful narcorin painkiller in general.. But you have to rememebr that people react to different meds differently as well.  Because I know that for me oxycodone(my drug of choice) gives me a stronger buzz, longer pain relief, and worse withdrawls..  But, I know people that say the Hydrocodone does them better and makes their pain better than oxycodone.  I even know a girl who prefers Darvon's(darvocet) over anything, and it is one of the weakest narcotics available.. So it really odes depend on how the drug affects the individual persons body.  I also think this would apply to withdrawl as well.
HARDEST TO WITDRAWL FROM WHEN ADDICTED--------------------------------->

1. METHADONE
2. PHENTANYL PATCHES
3. OXYCONTIN(chewed, crushed, broken, split, or snorted)
4. OXYCODONE IR ORAL(yes same active ingredient, for me not as bad as oxycontin)
5. MORPHINE ORAL
6. DILAUIDID
7. HYDROCODONE
8. CODIENE
9. DARVOCET(I forget the technical ingredient name)

I only left out the TRAMADOL because I have not EVER detoxed off of it.  I have heard that is is actually more dangerous than any of these listed above since it can cause siezers, an/or even DEATH from cold tukrey withdrawl..
