hydrocodone withdrawal

My son has been off hydrocodone for about three weeks. His only remaining symptom of withdrawal is a burning skin sensation that doesn't seem to go away. It is interfering with his sleeping and eating at this point. His only relief seems to come from alcohol. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Unfortunately, drinking it. Can't seem to make him understand how bad the alcohol is for him. I've tried to get him back to a doctor, but he says they're the ones who caused the problem in the first place by constantly refilling his Rx (back injury two years ago). I'm so proud of him for getting off the pills all by himself, but I'm terrified he's going to die from alcohol! Thanks for the advice.

drinking alcohol or rubbing it on the skin?

I recently had to go through a detox for oxycodone (same family of drugs), and I was told by the MD that some symptoms take months to go away.  Bottom line, though, ALCOHOL IS NOT NOT NOT NOT THE ANSWER!  All he is doing is substituting one behavior for another and that is very dangerous.
