Taking the hydro's are just going to prolong your detox from the fentanyl and you will actually still feel some detox symptoms because fentanyl is so much more powerful than hydrocodone, there is no comparison between the two.  So by taking the hydro's you're still going to be going through withdrawals and your'e picking up another habit that i gaurantee you that you will start taking upwards of 20-40 a day of those especially if you are using them to help with detox.  Since detox of opiates is so bad you would probably find yourself taking handfulls of hydro's every few hours.  Eventually after a couple of weeks the fentanyl would be out of your system and you would be addicted to the hydro's, so basically you're still addicted to opiates and you just added another opiate to the list.

I got off methadone 100 mg cold turkey back in October and it was hell.  I felt no need to use hydro's or any other painkillers during this time because I knew it wouldn't help that much and i would just end up on the other pills again.

I did however use my prescription of klonopin 1mg 3 times daily, restoril 30 mg at night, and neurontin 800mg 3 times daily......this helped a lot.  It was still really tough but now I can't even remember what methadone feels like.

If you can't get any of these prescriptions or don't have any, while you're going through detox there are several things that you can do to help.  I know that you will probably think its pointless but it really isn't i have done it and it does help.

Not in any particular order but try some of these

Get some epsom salt and bath in hot water as much as you want, its really comforting and it releieves the pain in your legs so much.  The pain in your legs is the worst and this really helps with this.

Also drink lots of water and no caffeine.  The more water you drink, the faster the detox is going to go, its not going to speed it up tremendously but it will help a little.  Don't drink caffeine because you're going to have trouble enough sleeping and the caffeine will just make matters worse.

An infared sauna:  If you don't have one, get one.  They are well worth the $200.  I'm sure you spent that amount numerous times on drugs so just think about that.  I already had one and it helps A LOT. You spend 30 minutes of time in there and you sweat TREMENDOUSLY!!!!  There are thousands of people who use this just to detoxify their body of metals and other toxic chemicals from their body and these are people that are drug free so it will help you naturally as well.  I would definitely reccommend this to you and anyone else going through opiate detox.

MAKE SURE YOU EAT. I know this will be hard.  But you have to make sure you eat try and eat 3 times a day but atleast twice a day at minimum.  Not eating is not healthy naturally for anyone, so you need to eat, and pick foods that aren't greasy, I'm sure your stomach will tell you what you don't need to eat so that will be pretty easy.  On the side I had lots of yogart, i prefer that over icecream.

Over the counter meds: There aren't too many that are going to help tremedously, however there is a herbal medication normally referred to either as the "nature's valium", its called Valerian Root.  This will relieve a little stress and will allow some relaxation.  I took this when i woke up, during the middle of the day and at night.

Everyone told me I wouldn't sleep through going off cold turkey off methadone and i actually didn't have my klons or restoril during the first week, i got them the second week and they helped tremendously.  I did all of these things and during the first week there was only one night that I did not sleep at all.  The other nights i got about 4 hours of sleep, which if you think about it when you're on opiates sometimes you only get 4 hours anyways.

You can do this, you just have to want to do this more than anything you've ever wanted to do in your life.  Just imagine yourself 5 years from now. Do you want to be in the same situation or would you rather have this over with now???  I would do it now .  Best of luck you to and I hope you do well, if you want it, you can have it.

You need to make that leap and quit beating yourself up and just do it.  You said you have a very supportive wife and thats good cause your gonna need her for 5 days of your life while you go thru the WD's.  Using an opiate to come off another opiate is crazy.  Like Sara said the longer you wait the worse it's gonna get.

Good Luck

an opiate is an opiate.  The only way you are going to get thru this is to quit thinking another opiate is going to help you.  The longer you put this off the harder it is going to get....sara
