im back and have a question that may be stupid...

I just got diagnosed with a fructose/lactose intolerance but before that I was taking immodium daily just so I could go out and work and shop and live my life. Well now that I got a diagnosis I don't need the immodium because I know what to avoid to prevent tummy troubles. I was taking immodium almost everyday since november until this past sunday. Monday my doc told me to stop the immodium which I had planned to anyway. So for the past few days I've been experiencing severe nausea, headaches, fatigue, and anxiety. My nausea feels similar to when I withdrew from xanax. Its like I'm hungry but feel like I'm going to vomit at any minute. So I took one immodium to test to see if maybe it was from stopping the immodium and I did feel a lot less nauseated. I don't know if this is psychosomatic or if you can really experience slight withdrawal from immodium.

Its nowhere near as bad as I felt during the xanax but it is uncomfortable and I haven't been able to eat much. So if anyone may know if this is possible, I'd like to know. Thanks!

I see. I guess that could explain my nausea and funny feeling stomach. I'm always anxious so it may just be the stomach issues I'm having causing me more anxiety.

Immodium has an opiate in it called loperamide. But unlike most opiates, it has very little to no effect on the central nervous system (does not cross the blood-brain barrier). Instead it has a strong action on the opioid receptors located along the GI tract.

That's what I thought was going to happen, having a rebound effect but I haven't had any bathroom emergencies since not taking...just some mild what I feel like are withdrawals. I have nausea..but I feel hungry I just haven't been able to eat because I constantly feel like I'm going to puke, headache, anxiety, and slight fatigue. I've read online that it can mimic opiate withdrawals but other sites said no withdrawals so I'm confused.

You need to be careful with taking immodium over a prolonged period as it can change the smooth muscles in your intestines and actually make your problem worse.

It does say that but that's because if you're having diarrhea for longer than that you need to be checked by a doc, which I was and unfortunately it took almost 7 months to give me a diagnosis. So I had to take it regularly or else I wouldn't have been able to work or have much of a life at all because I wouldve constantly been in the bathroom.
