Suboxone is buprenorphine with naloxone which basicly prevents people from shooting it up. The blocking part of sub is just that the buprenorphine has a stronger bind to the opiate receptors and blocks most doses of opiates. It is also only a partial agonist, compared to methadone, oxy's, hyrdro's, all being full agonist opiates. Both methadone and sub are used as replacement therapy tools in order to stay away from other opiates. There has been some people that use suboxone/subutex/buprenex for pain management, but my experience with sub is that it didnt work well for my pain, or atleast not as well as methadone or other opiates did. Over the years after abusing most opiates, methadone became my DOC and Ive detoxed off it a few times. This last go around I was up to 140mgs/daily and decided after tapering down to 30mgs that I was going to try the sub route to hopefully have an easier time with the w/d's. My own advice when it comes to pain control is that methadone works a whole lot better than sub does, but I did find sub to be a little easier to detox off. Anyways hope maybe this helped explain a little about suboxone, if you have any questions feel free to ask, have a good weekend, take care.

Yeah for some people long term sub treatment or methadone maintenance is a much better option than going back to their intial drugs, which are usually herion or oxycontin. Suboxone isnt a miracle drug that frees people from opiate addiction, but if the person is truely ready and determined stay clean it can be a useful tool. Im sorry to hear about your brother, hopefully in the future he will be able to get clean. Best wishes to you and your family, talk with ya later.

to me methadone and suboxone are very similar..both are maintenance drugs..both are addicting...both have wd..many will argue methadone is evil and sub is the miracle drug..time will tell...sub is more powerful than methadone and the doses they prescribe are astronmical..both were pain meds in europe/meth/germany..and the usa adopted them for detox drugs...sub is called temazepam in other countries and is prescribed in 0.2 mgs for pain....here they will rx 32 mgs and claim it is safe/..it is powerful and people need to know their drugs...methadone is still used for pain in the usa...sub is not/only for detox...be safe and be sure u learn about what u take...there r no free rides..and there is a price to pay for any long term use of either drug
