im new here

hi everyone. I've been taking norco 10 to 15 a day for two years. I've been clean cold turkey for 5 days. I wish i new about this site when i first decided to detox. I was searching withdrawl and found this place. I have to work tonight, first time back in 5 days. I feel a lot better today but i dont feel like i can go to work. My job is very physical. My question is, what can i do to make this heavy feeling on my shoulders go away? What can i do for more energy? I dont want to go back to the pills but right now im feeling weak minded. Please somebody, anybody help me. Also, i've been reading this site and hearing of all the horrible withdrawls, i didn't experience that to much. A lot of bathroom issues but no restless legs or sleep problems. With it being 5 days now, am i over the worse part or has it yet to come.sorry but im really scared to work tonight, to make it even harder, i dont work til 5 p.m. Tonight. Night time seems to be the worst for me. Please any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Working will help keep your mind off the pills.  Let your boss know you arent feeling 100% unless you think it will hurt you to let them know.  That is great that you quit cold turkey.  Good for you.

Drugs do have side effects and if you have been taking them for a while and quit cold turkey you are going to be affected WD symptoms.  So use the Thomas Recipe and if it gets to bad you may need to see your Dr. Have you though about a substance abuse meetings they helped me to recover from drugs.   Hang in there.

I can relate totally to what you are feeling, I have not worked pill free in years, and I also stand on my feet for a living. It is great that you were able to withdrawl going cold turkey, without to much discomfort. I have been tappering and I was takeing five a day and its been hard, I am down to a half a day. I think the mental withdrawl is worse, it screws with you head, one minute feeling I can do this, the next, feeling lost and alone without my pills. They gave me a false and I repeat false sence of well being. I started going to NA, I find it very helpful. This site is great but its good to have the person to person help. It was very hard and scarey to walk in to that first meeting, thinking some how I did not belong with these hard core drug addicts, but that is my addiction talking, I am an addict weather I like it or not.So give it a try, or call your local addiction center, and tell them your situation.

Many have said that work was actually a good thing..it helped keep their mind off wanting the pills.  I hope the day goes well for you.  This is the first response I was given when I came here.  It helped me understand how my brain was going to give me fits for a bit.

You have to remember how opiates work, and why you feel depressed etc. when you quit taking them and after you are over the withdrawals.

Opiates bound to the opioid receptors in your brain and body. They release their artificial endorphins to them, and block the bodies natural endorphins. After a while the neurons that produce the body's natural endorphins disappear. There is no need for them so they just don't rejuvenate like they would normally.

When you stop taking the opiates,  they leave your opioid receptors bare, and they are calling out for your body's natural endorphins, but there isn't any there at first. You body has to repopulate the neurons that make them, and this takes time.

Endorphins like dopamine  control your moods, anxiety, sadness, anger, happiness, pain etc.

You will slowly get your "old self" back as these neurons repopulate and begin increasing their endorphins production. After being off the opiates for a month, they should be about 45-50% of normal, and be back to normal within a year.
So hang in there, you will feel better and better as the months roll by, and they roll by pretty darn quick when we get to our age, don't they!

Try keep busy and keep your mind focused on positive things instead of dwelling on the depression, anxiety, etc. that are only temporary and will disappear as your endorphins return to normal.

Im taking Ginkgo Biloba and B6 for energy and sharpness. Drinking lots of Gatorade. Please stay clean. It'll take a little longer to feel better, but you've made a huge step.

Hello I'm new here too just been here 10 minutes so I'm not full of advice either.  My sponsor is a pain in the ===  but sober and other people think he's funny.  I hope we can get clean and not have to want to die.  I didn't want to die before I started taking painkillers.  they kill me but I let stinking thinking tell me if I take a oxy I will feel better.   It's a lie but I believe it even when I know it's a lie.  Hard to say what will come to me but death for sure if I believe the lies for much longer. I took too many risks already to get high and I dont want to be a scum bag thief and steal from friends

Help is on the way.  I jam not qualified to give you advise, just to give you support.  I just happen to be at home today.

I think you are doing better than than most who quit cold turkey.  No matter what don't use, you have made it this far.  Don't go backwards.

I am sure the troops will be contacting you shortly.  Hope you feel better soon.

Hey tawnie, your addiction is playing with your mind. Your addiction wants you to use. Be strong!! You have 5 days. The worst is not yet to come. You are fortunate in that you didn't have horrible WD. Great!!
Are you staying hydrated? I would go out and get a ton of gatorade and starting downing it. Working tonight, especially if its physical will be a good thing because your body will be moving and your mind will be focused on something other than pills.
You just have to picture yourself using again and play out in your head what will happen if you do. You already know this is a dead end road.
Addicts are impatient. We want to feel better NOW! and we must practice patience.
Remember, 1 pill is too many and 1000 is never enough. There will never be enough pills to make you feel whole.
Hang in there! Your doing awesome!
