well. hes most deff. addicted to vics. he had a complete break down the other night wen he was on sevrel drugs including vics. ive only known him for 4 weeks and ive never known anybody or personaly delt with an addiction...i want to do the most i can. and im being very suportive and tell him all the time how proud i am and how happy i am along with his freidns and family..tomorrow is going to b his 4th day sober( hes doing this cold turkey) and for the past 2 days the only thing hes been doing is sleeping. how much longer is he going to feel like this? and is there anything on my half i can do for him that can reduse his physical wd?? and.. hes going to go to his doc. tomorrow to see if they can give him sumthing ( another drug ) to make him not feel like this.. but im afraid that hes going to b depentant on THAT drug not to feel the affects of the wd from the vics...any advice or anything sumthing...???

First, If he is withdrawing from 40 Vics per day her should be awake, jittery, restless, leg pain, abdominal pain and diareah. Anything but sleeping. It he taking Valume or clonazepam or ambian to induce sleep?? some people take those at night just to be able to get a few hours sleep.

YOu are right to worry about substituting one drug for another but under a doctors help it may help but should only take a few days to get through the worst. Make sure he is not telling the doc he has pain and need meds. The doc need to know the truth or do not do it.

4 days is likely to hump and he should be getting better. Most drug stores sell opiate test kits for about $10. I would have him take a test to make sure he is not fooling you. You have a good heart but life with an addict if tough. Don't get to emotionally attached to him if he can not stay sober. tell him up front you will be using a kit to check up on him. Tell him you want to be a part of his life but not if he is a drug addict. Do not be an enabler. Some people will take advantage.

P.S Do a search for The Thomas Recipe. It has lots of stuff to do to reduct the WD. Some people swear by it. Other then that just be there for him. Tell him every day should start to become a little better now.

well hes been taking A LOT of nyquil ( 1 bottle a day , wich im sure cant b good? ) and he took sum sleeping pill today im not sure of the name ...but wen he is awake he is deff jittery and restless i dont bleave he has diarrhea yet and wen i ask him if hes nauseus he says no...no stomach pain ...im also worried bc he hasnt been eating in 2 days...but im not THAT concurned about it...ive already told him that i cant b in a realationshp with him if hes going to b on them and i was a major reason why he wanted to stop. but i am going to bring up testing him..but idk how ill know wat he tells his docter...should i have him wait untill after the 4th day to see how he feels b4 he goes to take more medicine? i just dont want to see him go down hill his break down scared me and some things he was saying wasnt okay and i suggested to him rehab bc the place i was looking at online said they give a phycological evaluation wich i think he needs but now he wont go to rehab and hes doing it on his own i just dont want him to have a nother addiction i wish i had all the ansers and he asks me questions like i know, thats a reason why i wanted to talk to ppl who knew about this bc i have NO IDEA and i dont want to come off sounding like i do i feel like im babaling lol...im just very concernd and he has a baby and thats a nother reason why im so worried .. for her sake as well as his...

Well if he can sleep then great. Also noting wrong with going to a doctor as long as he is honest about the situation. Remember you and I are not doctors. They may put him back on vics to taper even but I would not suggest it at this point after 4 days. Just hang in there. Let him take the nyquil and sleeping pill.

Remember getting off is easy, it is stayig off that is hard. The pecentage of people who relapse is staggering. Love can be a powerful motivator. Make sure he know the consequesnce if he does not do this.

Call the Doctor and insist on going with him to ask quesiotn and learn more yourself.

I saw this posted by someone else. it may be of use to you.

I have to go the bed now but will be back in the AM if you need anything.

I am worried more about you then him. I would hate to see you get caught up in his mess. be careful, We addics are exceptional liars. Tell him trust is something he will have to earn with you over time. you are a wonderful person for doing this for a very new friend.
