is hydrocodone easier than oxycodone

is hydrocodone easier than oxycodone

Wondering if cold turkey from hydro (lortab) is easier to quit cold turkey than Oxycodone (percocet)?

I think it would be about the same but let's hear what other members say.

How much do you take and for how long?

~For me the vicodin withdrawal was a lot worse than oxycodone (percocet). Ive heard others say the opposite. But I seem to be having late withdrawal symptoms this go around. ~Bkitty

Its my choice to quit, with full support from my husband. I would take 2-4 7.5mg a day, my doctor prescribed 90pills a month. I never ran out or bought off the streets. I went thru withdrawal from perc's in 2009 omg it was real bad. The reason I am asking if hydro is less painful wd is my dr. now is totally against patient's having anything higher than lortab. So even tho some thinks its..... Potato.....potaHto? The pharmacy has oxy's as control#2 and hydro as control#4. I live in Maryland, a controlled drug class between the 2 or 4 can lead to a felony!  So I was hoping this withdrawal will go easier than the oxy's withdrawal since the dr. and the pharmacy both hold oxy's to such high regard...Sorry if I am not making much since, any insight would be nice!

Well...I'm not understanding this...Lortab is the trade name for hydrocodone, right? And that's what you're taking...the withdrawal is probably going to be the same except you don't really take that much so the only way is to taper or try stopping and see how you feel. I don't understand the felony remark or why that even matters. I do know that one needs a written rx and the other could be faxed or phoned in but that shouldn't matter either.

This is an interesting question,,,oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone but I think it all breaks down to the same chemical after its been metabolized,,therefore you will experience withdrawal from either one. Im not exactly sure of this something I heard,,,I am too interested in knowing more. Lets see what any others may have to say ~Bkitty

the difference between schedule 2 verse 4 is its potential for abuse both drugs are hard to get off offoxy abusers tend to run the mg up higher then lortad users in general not to say we dont have people out there eating 25 lortabs a day but its not uncommon to see 120 to 150 or higher with oxy this would be the only reason it would be harder to get off both are narcotic and both have there vises also a doctor is regulated on how many class4 prescription he/she writes there subject to a dea audit every yr if a certain amount is exceeded
but one verse the other I have watched people struggle off ether .......Gnarly

I pray so hard for day that I can truelly feel again & feel true joy & fun again with my children,I would give you my arm or leg just to have the oppertunity to go to a Truelly Great Facility like Florida detox Center & wellness Center, they help fix all of you mot just pieces.....I am presc.roxys & I am so ready to quit, though I need help, please.I am looking for someone near me in _____ Fl,that is also ready to get off of pain meds.we can help each other with the withdrawels, children & so forth..I thought If I had someone that Has the same goal near me & to lean on this process would go allot better, though maybe I am wrong!  Because I will still be left which severe pain after off of pain meds,,thats why I woulld give anything to go to the Fl.Detox Place....Does anyone know about special funding or anything like that....I WISH I could afford to go to florida Detox Center(this was talked about on Dr.Phil)do you know they have a 90% success rate(WOW)& its a Rapid Detox without hardly any withdrawel,I wish,& pray for a miracle like this,(& for everyone who needs & deserves a chance at life,a fair ,fighting chance)....,also they help the underlying issues, & the main thing for me is my pain,I still need surgeries. It is so sad that If you are poor you are not offered these miracles,Why?

Thanks for the support! I am gonna risk "karma" but I have yet to experience any wd issue's! 11/30/2011 The yawning and no energy is the worst, and NO this isn't my 1st,2nd, or 3rd time detoxing off pain medicine's! But it is my 1st time on Hydrocodone hence my 1st post asking if the wd would be the same as Oxycodone !

I will continue to check-in and share any change's good or bad. Good luck to everyone whether its your 1st day 1st time or not each time I had a surgery I was put back on this track with pain pills. My doctor suggested using Hydro this time instead of Oxy's and wow I think the doctor's should start low on the scale of pain meds! JMO  Good day

i talked to a pharmacist about oxycodone vs other opiates (because this is the second time I've been switched to oxy and it makes me feel like HELL!  She told me it's the only opiate that binds to the brain receptors in a specific way-that's what makes it so crazy addictive to some and so crazy horrible for others.  I took my last oxycontin yesterday at 10 am and I actually feel better mentally and my headache is gone for the first time in a m onth.  I am shaking like a leaf, freezing cold, cramping, and nauseous.  But at least I feel closer to me.  In my opinion (and it's only that(:)  Oxy should be eliminated.
