ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY
is it possible that percocets can help me concentrate?

is it possible that percocets can help me concentrate?

So,
First of all, I think that I am getting addicted to percocets. I ended up taking them for my shin but I still continute to take them now and then because I just feel so good on them.
I know that this is really un-healthy and please don't comment on this, I'm going to my doctor tomorrow morning to get her help.

BUT.

I was wondering if there was any way that I can concentrate better when I'm on percocets? I accomplish so much more when I am taking them... do you think this is possible? Or just in my head...

Avis is soooooo right.  Many of us on this forum started opiates for medical reasons.  They took away the pain, gave energy and made us feel more outgoing.  Before long you are taking one or two extra pills a day to keep the feeling.  Long story short, you start planning everything around your pill habit, which continues to increase.  After awhile you are out of control with them just so you feel normal (not high).  Stop now.  They have a way of taking over your life.

Percs were also my thing.  Taking 10 to 18 10mgs. a day.  Its now been 27 days since my last.  Still think about them but with meetings and prayer I'm fighting.

You can do it too.  Peace and strength . . . .

I find that I can concentrate much better without opiates now.  My head is totally clear and not fogged out like it was on pills.  That's just my situation though.  Everyone different I guess...but I would also suggest that you stop now.  You will keep chasing that "energy" till it is completely gone, and be left with none at all....sad thing..Good luck whatever you decide to do..

You got great advise from avisg & oompah54. They are soooooo absolutely correct.

The fact that you are here researching should give you a good indicator that you are addicted.

I can guarantee you this from my own experience,,,,,, if you try to control pills you will lose the battle. The euphoria you are feeling now will dissapear slowly and you will be forced to take more to get that same feeling. You probably already know that. It's called tolerance, soon you will have to take so many pills that you will be force to lie to multiple Dr's to feed the beast. A beast you voluntarily created by using pills for fun. The fact is there is a point in time when we as addict cross over the invisible line when using pills is no longer a luxury,  it becomes a necessity just to function.  Then they stop working completely and turn on you like a hungry pack of lions ready to devour you. But wait it dosent stop there. Our dependence grows and grows and our consumption follows suit. Soon we are taking so many we are broke, no friends, no job, sick, constipated, liver problems, pancrease problems, stomach problems, acid reflux problems, emotional and spiritual problems and we are habitual liars!  Just to name a few side effects.

I am not lying to you, I dont even know you so a lie profits nothing for either of us. On the other hand by telling you the truth, God will smile upon me for doing the right thing and hopefully you will see pills for what they really are. In turn it may save you years of misery, financially, health wise, emotionally, spiruitally and of course in you personal relationships.

I hope you kill the beast now before it gets out of it's cage.

Hi~~  It's wonderful that you're speaking to the doctor about your use of Percocet. Very wise.    While you're speaking with her, explain how much better you concentrate while on them.  That would be good for her to know about...
Good luck~

It will seem that you can concentrate much better. I felt like superwoman on them. Until i didnt. Glad to hear you are getting your doctors help now, that is a smart idea. This is just a trick the percocets are playing. You will have much energy and concentration in the begining, that will soon fade and you will be left with an enormous problem to kick.
Best of luck to you. We are here for you, no matter what you decide to do. Lots of support here. God Bless.                     Jacky

That's what we all think in the beginning!  Opiates are sneaking little pills, I started with percocet as a teen and now in my mid twenties am detoxing from snorting 120mg-200mg of oxycontin daily.  I would like to say that I will be clean forever, the detox is so incredibly hard you would think I would not want to go through that again but it's just not that easy.  There is a point you end up crossing and once you have crossed that point it's a downward spiral, you don't even realize how you have destroyed your life until you start detoxing and snapping back into reality.  My first day of detox I felt as though someone close to me had died it was really intense, that person that died was me I realized, the old me.  Besides the horrible physically withdrawls there are really really intense emotional withdrawls, for me anyways.  This has been the hardest part for me.  I keep having to ask myself what if I'm just not happy with my life, my situation.  It's so much easier to cover the unhappiness with some Oxy then to pick up my life a deal with it.  You know what though I still have people who care, who want me to be better, who want and need me to do more with my life.  This is why I have chosen to be clean, I have not reached a point where I have lost all my friends and the trust of my family but I have watched many of my fellow users reach that point and it is so very sad I couldn't imagine trying to do this with absolutely no one.  One of the most helpful things though is being on here reading others experiences knowing that each day gets better.

You feel so good on them because they are opiates and induce a false sense of euphoria. That is the chemical talking to you. You are very smart to take control of this now by talking to your doctor. Please don't let this get control of you...stop now while you can without too much trouble. Trust the advice you are getting here...these people know what they are talking about!
