Ditto, avisg!  Never, ever would I take it to get off pills.  Just a personal choice.  Just take the WDs and be done with it!!!

You can do it!

Do not go this route if this is your first attempt at getting clean. Instead, line yourself up some recovery care such as an addiction counselor and some aa/na meetings. Try this first and try very hard, because it will not be harder than coming off of methadone.

Best of luck to you.

I thought I would need methodone at first too. I just couldnt imagine life without some opiate in me. But I assure you its possible. I am clean now and dont have to rely on any narcotic to get through a day. I know you are doubting yourself but just start gearing up, you can do it.

HI so your thinking about methadone ...well first off it was never designed as a step down medication for pill abuse it was designed for a worst case senerio with an bad I/V drug user in mind...today it is also prescribed as a last resort kida option for pain management thats how I wound up strung out on it...it should only be used for a worst case after multiple attempts have been made to get clean...methadone is a powerful narcotic
much more powerful then the pills your on and I agree with the above posters that it would be like jumping into the fire from the frying pan...your not going to beat withdrawals by going on methadone...your only going to create a wost addiction that you eventually have to break ....I lived on methadone for 6 1/2yrs and ill be the first to tell you its no way to live...the side effects far out weigh the benefits...many people think its a free ride away from the addiction...nothing could be farther from the truth...right now if you where to stop with the pills your withdrawals would be over in a mater of a week methadone withdrawals last for months...it took me 8 1/2 mo of a very uncomfortable taper to get off it...then the recovery time was extremely slow ..I dident even really start to see the light for 90 days after I quit and it still took more from there to start to feel right again...if someone was to offer it to me again ...even if I was in the same situation ...I would run the other way knowing what I know about it now...methadone shouldn't even be an option for you...it will only create a worst mess in the end for you...do yourself a favor and just get off the pills...we can help you here with that and I would much rather help someone off pills then to help them deal with the fallout left over by methadone...good luck to you and God bless...  Gnarly

If you have health insurance, try looking into a medical detox. If not, do your best to get a long weekend off of work, stock up on the items in the thomas recipe, plus melatonin and lots of comfort food, and stick it out. Thats what I would do. Methadone is a real MF. Probably just as many people are strung out on methadone as there are on pills. Any way you do it, good luck, let us know how it goes.

Methadone is good for people living busy and erratic lifestyles as a result of substance abuse. It's long acting which means your whole day doesn't have to be about getting a fix- you drink your methadone and then have a day. Obviously this is only the case for people who don't use on top of their methadone.

If you're just taking too many prescription pills it's probably a better idea to inform your Dr and slowly decrease your dose. I don't know what the pills you're referring to are as I'm not from the US but if they're not as 'strong' as methadone is then there's really little point in using it as the withdrawl (withdrawal) could possibly be even worse- although for the reasons already mentioned sometimes this is a lesser evil. If you're unable to decrease your dose due to 'temptation' then the likelyhood is that, even on methadone, you'd continue taking them as the principle is similiar.

If the pills you talk of are opiates perhaps discuss a form of opiate antagonist.

Just a thought for you.  You don't have to stay on methadone long term.  I had a good experience in the past just taking methadone for about a week and a half, then stopping everything all together.  This allows you to avoid the worst part of withdrawal, but it's not long enough to get you hooked on methadone.  Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a picnic.  I still had some mild physical w/d's and about three weeks of restless sleep, but it beat the agony of the first week and a full month of bad sleep.  How would you be doing the methadone, from a clinic?

like everyone else has said first i would say talk to your doc and explain your situation to him and he will be more than glad to help you with this problem and instead of methadone have u researched anything on suboxone if you are going to try that route to help you with your addiction because in my opinion suboxone is the better med over methadone because when you are on suboxone you are alot less likely to abuse it and also take any other opiates for the simple fact that if you do take a pain med it will do absolutely nothing because the suboxone will block it so you would just be wasting your money on the pills also because of the ceiling effect of suboxone so you cant take more and more and feel any different because after 4mg the drug is at its max effect and no matter how much more you take you will feel no different but just like methadone suboxone is an opiate and is addictive it just doesnt give you that high because it is not a full opiate like oxy is and that is the reason it is alot less likely ppl will abuse it because it is pointless to because it does nothing im sure ppl will disagree with me and say methadone is better but to each his own and i respect everyones opinion well hope this helps ya out

Good Luck and Godspeed
