is there a sub group of AA for prescript. med addiction

I know NA is around, but I thought I saw a poster on a subway about a group for prescript. addiction?
I had great success ...15 years in AA but had to deal with pain and the usual happened, now I am trying to cope with getting off pills.

Any online source suggestions would help.

I'm confussed.  I thought that was what NA was... natcotics anonymous.  What am I missing? :-)

NA is Narcotics anonymous. I was just looking to see if I could find a small group that was more specific. Not that I don't know that a drug is a drug is a drug (including alcohol).

I thought I might identify more with people who got hooked on doctor prescribed meds.

Actually, I know AA would be good for me also.

One problem I have is overcoming the dread of walking into meetings I used to go to when I was 15 years sober and very active.

It is stupid, because I found AA to have the most non-judgmental people I had ever met.

On the other hand, I am still on some legit drugs for legit reasons, and I guess I am afraid AA or NA will have people who will look down on me because I still am taking stuff. I am working with my therapist and meds supervisor to cut back.

Boy, pride does get you, doesn't it?

I have just started reading this posting area. Maybe it will help me until I can stuff my pride and go get help in person

na has no problem with members using drugs as prescribed by their dr and actually taking meds for a legit reason is no ones business unless you want to make it so,,like when you talk to your sponser.Also ,,when I started na it was mostly people on street drugs but now every meeting has people on pills. Remember what they say about pride,,,"you cant save your azz and your face at the same time,,gl to ya

Been there , done that. I was very active in AA for 17 yrs..started doing pills at 14 1/2 yrs. and continued to go to AA mtgs. because I had a desire not to drink. I know I switched one for the other, but i came clean w/ my AA community when I was almost 2 months clean. They were very supportive and thought  it took a lot of courage to tell them (yeah, after ..2 mos. of thinking about it!)

Someome on this forum told me..."There is no shame in coming back...the shame is in not sharing your story."  They actually respected me for that...go figure! lol  One lady who just celebrated 2 yrs...told me she was glad I continued to come to mtgs. even tho I was using...because I was a great inspiration for her and she has learned so much from me..so you never know.

At the women's AA mtg. I go to...there are a lot of cross-addicted people.
Give it a try.......I think you will feel a great weight off your shoulders...I know I carried that guilt around w/ me for a long time...which prol' jsut kept me in the cycle...guilt and shame will EAT you alive!!

Great post toxic and your right ,,the shame is not coming back. Also to Betsy,,,I dont know where you live but there are many meetings where I"m at and I"ve found that you can find meetings by locations. The worse the neighborhood is the more likely that street drugs will be prominant but the meetings that are held at hospitals have more people that use pills. Of course this whole reply is contrary to na since there position (and mine) is addiction is addiction regardless of your "doc". Again gl

Look up PA  Pills Anon>> Mostly held at hospital facilities and churches.  They also have a website....Pills anynomous ******* or just google it.  Good luck.

Thank you for your replies and advice. It's all what I need to hear. Will be back. Thanks for the tip re areas. I think I didn't want to say I wanted to avoid meetings where lots of people used street drugs....not because I think I am any better, but I probably wouldn't relate as well (and addiction being addiction, would probably try to find some street sources!!!!!)

So thank you. I need all the positive reinforcement I can get. It nice to be back where sometimes people don't need to be told stuff; they've been there, done that.
