is this a sign of heroin addiction?

He goes out briefly and and comes back with a needle mark in his arm and face flushed. Then later on, he sniffles a lot, his body is itchy, nods off and on during the day, vomiting/nausea, makes frequent trips to the bathroom. I noticed red spots on his arm and several needle tracks. When he naps, his arms and legs twitches. He's very quiet with me and has denied his drug addiction so I don't bring it up anymore. He always has been quiet with me, we bond over non-drug related stuff and our friendship is distant as he has chosen a new circle of friends. I know his former roommate was addicted to vicodin.

His appetite is low, doesn't eat a whole lot though see him drinking quite a bit of water, coffee or sugary drinks. Sometimes, I've seen a "faraway" look in his eyes.

Don't you think you answered your own question? You said he goes out and comes back with a needle mark in his arm. Even if it is not specifically heroin and it some other kind of drug he is shooting up, does it matter?
