junkie needs help

My husbands cousin is really Dickinson the hospital with dble pneumonia, a clot in his lung, a clot in his heart and a blood infection.  background: 32 yr old male with 11 year addiction to multiple substances; meth, pills, crack, and heroin.  hes bangin heroin 10 times a day, jammin in his arms, neck, legs, back. track marks all over his body.  he's blaming everyone for his addictions, and glamorizing it ( kinda hard to do when ur 32 ******** in a diaper) his family is at a loss and don't know what to do... his mother is an alcoholic.  my husband and I were going to contact intervention, but his mother said no. I think she doesn't want people to see her own disease.  what should we be doing to help him?  we try to support him into recovery but he is refusing... says nobody wants a junkie... pity tripping and playing the blame game.. plus trying to get people to score for him and cook him up some opium, while confined to a hospital bed.  the drs are giving him morph to take the edge off, as well as another drug to mimic the effects...

Hi and welcome! The sad thing is that they have to want help in order to receive help. This is where things can feel hopeless for family and friends. He's hurting for a fix, so he's going to say and do things that are irrational. He's what I call,"in addiction survival mode". If he is in the care of certified physicians, than he's in good hands. I wouldn't be clean today if I didn't want it, and nor would anyone for that matter. The intervention deal is a hard one to call, but it's not going to hurt anything to try. Like I said before though, he's got to want to help himself. It sounds like he is going through a lot of extra stuff as well, so I would imagine it's been really rough for him, especially since he's been abusing so many substances. Just show your support the best you can and pray to god that hopefully this is his rock bottom and that he chooses life. Good luck and God bless!

I am sorry to hear about this.  With all the denial going on with this family this has to be tough.  There is nothing you can do at this point for him except let him know you will be there when he decides to clean up.  He has to make that decision himself.  I hope for his own sake he will come to his senses quick like.         sara
