just need some help understanding I'm sure

I am a 43 year old male. I am recovering from a herniated disk surgery. This is my second surgery on my L5 disk in the past 16 years. I had immediate relief from the surgery as it related to the excruciating pain that went down my leg and through my hip area and it was quite an emotional experience to say the least. I  didn't want to sleep the night I had the surgery because I had endured the pain for several months prior to the surgery. I just wanted to stay awake and feel the absense of pain that I had been experiencing.
Here is my issue. For 2 months prior to surgery, I was prescribed a 7.5 Lortab 1 tabet every 8 hours for pain along with the usual predisone followed by a muscle relaxer. I was working through this entire period and even went to my company's Medical center where they prescribed me "Ultracet' that would allow me to medicate myself while I worked. I took the "Ultracet during my working hours and took the Lortab immediately after I left work.
Immediately after surgery. I was prescribed "Percocet" to take 1-2 tablets every 3-6 hours as needed. I quit taking the Lotab and haven't taken it since. 3 days after my disk surgery, I had a gum surgery that has caused me an extension on my pain.  As a result, I have continued taking the 'Percocet" until yesterday. The meds made me feel nauseated at times and I just want to get back to "normal". In the past 24 hours, I started feeling flu-like symptoms as well as restless, diahrrea to the point I took a "Percocet" before went to bed. I don't know if I felt any relief because I went right to sleep. I have not felt that same sense of uneasinees today but, I still don't feel "right".
Any help or answers to what I am feeling?

Thank goodness for us who go through withdrawal, you can't die from lack of sleep.  That part of the withdrawal bothers me the worst, but it is usually caused by the RLS, which in my case is RAS because my arms get it worse than my legs....

Your body is starting to withdraw from the medication.. Flu like symptoms while your legs feel kinda antsy...  You can go to your Dr. with this information as he can help to ease the symptoms with medication.. If you just want to stop you will feel that way for about 5 day's 3 and 4 being the worst... Sleep is a big issue during this time... There are Natural products and warm baths that help a little to ease symptoms.. If you would like to know more let us know..  lesa

I would think you are having some fairly mild withdrawal symptoms.  If you continue to take the Opiates the withdrawals will be much worse the next time you stop taking them.   The thing about Opiates is that they only fool the brain into not feeling the pain the nerve sends to the brain.  After awhile you will require more and more of the drug to stop the pain and the drug will become less and less effective on the pain; a vicious cycle ---  The longer you use the worse the withdrawals will be.  Many of us used for years and paid a steep price for our use.  Most everyone on this site used the Opiates for real pain - but failed to recognize the dependence or addiction until it was too late.  Opiates for chronic pain are often a bad choice but many doctors will keep prescribing them.  Hope you will find a way to get off of them soon.  There are only two ways to do this - one is to taper and the other is to just bite the bullet and go cold turkey.  Either way will work.  All the best.

You are probably feeling some light withdrawal, but with only being on the meds for two months prior to surgery you shouldn't have it too bad.  The quicker you get off of all of it the better.  Good luck to you!
