by kalie1979, Jan 07, 2009 08:06PM
i really want off hydro's i am trying to taper, but i am going back up to the same dosage i used to take. the pain starts in my legs, really bad, i don't think its rls. its starts below my knees and ends before my ankle. its unbareable.. i remember the last time i tryed to quit cold turkey. i did not sleep for three days, my husband took me to the hospital and they gave me pain meds in my iv. i slept for 2 days straight not getting up for anything. it never got better. i was clean for 26 days and i could not take it anymore. my husband said i was decenagrating before his eyes. so i thought i could take one before i went to bed to sleep , but of course i got really addicted again.  plz any advice would help. when i got to 4 pills a day tapering my legs started again. and also when i work long hours, standing all day my cab muscles swell..

Today is the first day on this site.  I have been reading all day.  I found some valuable information.  I take 10-12 or more of 10/500 Vicodin a day. I just ran out and decided that was it.  I have done it before with the latest relapse.  I have gone 3 days now.  I felt crappy for the first two days.  Today is better and I hope that tomorrow will be better. I have taken a few days off from work and been laying around the house.  I found so much support on this site.  It really helps.  I can't sleep but for a few hours at a time. I have leg tremors and more,  The worst for me was between 24-60 hours. I wanted to die instead of the feeling I had. Sometimes I felt my skin was coming off.  I have chronic pain and the meds is the only thing that helps.  I think you should give it a try. Do some reading and find the best method of detoxing for you.  It is a rough road and the clock moves really slow. With the help of this site you can do it.

kalie....i am sorry you are going through this, here are some suggestions that have worked for me, let me give you the situation, i went through some major help problems in recovery, i had to take pain meds, when this period was over i did successfully taper
this is what i did
1. set up a taper plan
2. give pills to a friend, spouse, sponsor, do not give yourself pain meds, you are not in control
3. if you cannot sleep, do not force it, find a hobby to keep you busy,
4. read "in times of illness" everyday
5. goto a meeting everyday

these are a few suggestions that helped me get through pain pills during chemo, last summer
but in 2004 when i was on a very large amount of opiates, i went ct, and eventually my wd symptoms landed me in icu, that is because i had a mess of health problems
if leg pain is your only symptom, take some motrin, and pray, it will pass,
i will check in on you tommorow, hang in there

While I am not clean yet, I can help a little with advise. If you r still tapering ,keep it up ,don't give up becuase of your legs. I have tried the tapering method myself .Obviously it didn't work for me.I've also tried cold turkey and wound up in the ER. Im am beginning suboxine on the 19th ,hopefully I can quit that way. I recoverd 12 yrs ago from cocaine addiction ,yes I got hooked again. but on pain meds. I snort between 12-25 perc 7.5/325 a day.Im not proud of it ,just giving u some input on myself. But anyway, her are a few things I did to battle the pain and tremors in my legs which was REALLY bad when I came of coke.
1. Hot baths-- as hot as u can stand -if it cools off ,let the water out and start over.Do it right before bed and u might get a few hrs of sleep.
2.Valarien root tea- Its nasty tasting ,but it will relax your tremors and help you sleep.
3. Wrap your legs in ace bandages before bed ,it will help with the circulation.Thats the issue in your legs.
4. Heating pads, wrap your legs in them until you fall asleep then have someone turn it off for you if you can ,if not put them on low before falling asleep.

I hope this helps you some, I will pray for you as well as myself.
