loracet

My son just told me he has an addiction to Loracets and wants to quit. We have no insurance but I could try and get a loan for rehab if I need to. He has been taking them for two years and takes anywhere from 2 to 10 a day. What is the next step in getting help for him. He says he can do it on his own. Does anyone have any advice.

rehab is very expensive,if you dont have insurance.he can do this on his own, unless he's doing more than what he says.usually a person that is addicted to loracets cant go from 10 one day and then 2 the next.maybe he needs rehab but from my standpoint he's doing alot more than he lets on

your son has made the first step...admitting his addiction, next step is to decide how to stop, either c/t or tapering. if he has enough to taper and someone to hold the doc for him that might work best. but  he needs to be totally honest with you on the exact amount he is taking each day. 2 to  10 is a big jump and taking 10 one day and only 2 the next desnt sound right, good luck and wish the best for you and your son.

Try helping him taper.  It might be the best route if you have no insurance.  If you see an addiction specialist, they will want to put him on sub.  Research that first because some say it is subbing one drug for another.
I too doubt that he has days which he only takes two (unless he is running low).  If he is taking 10 a day, have him drop to 9 a day for 4 days, then 8 a day, 7, etc. until he gets to 1 a day.  Does he take all 10 at once or does he take 3 pills 3 times a day??
I have tapered from 15 pills a day down to 1/2 a pill a day and will stop altogether on Friday.  I have had some withdrawal but not as bad as those who go cold turkey.  If he does go cold turkey, check out the Thomas Recipe on the health pages below.
Also, look into the amino acid protocol.  There are a lot of people who swear by L Tryosine, SamE, etc.
Good luck....
Oh and don't forget to find your son a local NA meeting.  He will need that too.
