m on new pain med and need to ask a question

my pain managment dr put me on new pain med called, nucynta, and has taken me off of lortab that i had been on for 4 year's and taking 6 a day, 2nd day off of them and thanks to my dr has me on prestique, ativan, librax and all ready had been taking flexarill. now i have had dihrrea realy bad, how long does this last? i was thinking since nucynta was stronger and a opiate that i would not have withdraw's??? can someone tell me how long this will last? i have severe crohn's disease and suffer so much with that too, but had my bloodwork done and that showed good, so it has to be symtom's from coming cold turkey from lortab, uughhhhh, thank's for any info i can get!!!! thank you for your time.

Okay...this IS quite similar to tramadol but it's not tramadol. It's much newer. It's an opiate with an antidrpessant action.  The opiate is not at all as strong as Lortab. Ergo, the withdrawals. Take some Immodium and hot baths as Gnarly suggested and let your Doctor know tomorrow what's going on.

Do you need to be on Ativan AND Librax?  Ask about that, also.

Good luck!

hey moon I tryed to research this stuff and it sounds a lot like tramadol with something that works on norprenefrine in the brain....I dont think its a true opiate but it works on the receptors thats why he's in withdrawals ...your best bet is to see if the doctor will give you a script of the old meds to taper off with if he wont then your just going to have to tuff it out for around 4 or 5 days...imodium with help with the runs and a hot soak goes a long way to releave the withdrawal symptoms....good luck and God bless.......Gnarly

I am not familiar with your new pain medication but it sounds somewhat irresponsible of your doctor to abruptly take you off of an opiate that you have taken for that long.  Ativan and flexaril together too?  I am not a doctor but that jsut sounds like overkill... I wish that I could offer you more advice or insight into your specific situation but I can suggest some remedies that could help to alleviate some of the withdrawal symptoms.  If I were you I think I would discuss this further with the doctor...
Check out the health pages on the right side of the screen, there is some good information there.  Try to eat healthy, if you are unable to eat, drink boost or ensure to allow your body to get the nutrients necessary to heal.  Take vitamins - a mulit-vitamin and some calcium and magnesium (NaturalCalm or CalMag is great...can find it at health food stores) also B12 is great for energy.  Drink plenty of water and try to incorporate some form of exercise into each day.  You should be feeling much better within approximately 4 to 5 days - of course, I cannot say for sure...but that is a fair assumption.
If the other medication is an opiate (one I have never heard of though), especially a stronger opiate, I am curious as to why you are withdrawing.
Best of luck and continue posting for support -
Peace
