I've found nothingthat would lead me to believe that they ae taking it off the shelves but here is what it's all about:

The maker of the narcotic painkiller OxyContin and three executives pleaded guilty Thursday to making false claims about the drug's risk of addiction, a U.S. federal prosecutor and the company said.
Purdue Pharma LP pleaded guilty to felony misbranding of OxyContin with the intent to defraud.
(Toby Talbot/Associated Press) Purdue Pharma LP pleaded guilty in a Virginia court to felony misbranding of OxyContin with the intent to defraud. The company's president, chief lawyer and former chief medical officer also pleaded guilty to charges of misbranding — a crime of mislabelling, fraudulently promoting or marketing a drug for an unapproved use.
"With its OxyContin, Purdue unleashed a highly abusable, addictive and potentially dangerous drug on an unsuspecting and unknowing public," U.S. Attorney John Brownlee said in a release.
"For these misrepresentations and crimes, Purdue and its executives have been brought to justice."
The Stamford, Conn.-based company and executives agreed to pay $634,515,475 US in fines.

$634,515,475 chump change for the drug companies and they were fines... who won??  The federal courts.  yea!  whooo whooo!!  Meanwhile, >>>>>back at the brain damage.....>>>The lives that were actually lost and the broken families, broken people, incarcerated people.  Do you wonder how much the lawyers got paid?

And yet we can still buy alcohol without a prescription.  You know I hate opiates for what they have done to me but some things in this country are really screwed up.

They probably won't stop making it or pull it from the shelves. I do believe that docs will not be as willing to give it out though like they have been. Also pharms are starting to keep closer tabs on who gets it when they refill etc.. since it is so heavily diverted into the world of street drugs..
They deserve to get sued.. they lied about the drug, made claims the FDA never cleared. Docs went prescribing it without full knowledge of the possibilities of the risk of addiction and dependency..

The pharmacy down the street from me, (mom and pop variety), has a big sign at the counter, "We Do Not Carry Oxycontin."

I thought it was because of theft, but maybe it's a moral issue?

When a doctor prescribes an opiate......
Why isn't he telling us "you know this drug is just a low-grade HEROIN"
How many people would willingly  take it then?
I had no idea!!!!!
When i realized i was dependant i thought at least its not heroin (lol).
