have been 30mg methadone 20 years
have decided to try and get off
this is day 1
hoping i can make it
any ideals to help

Yeah that's a pretty high dose to jump off at. I jumped off m/d 67 days ago from 21 mgs & am still w/ding, granted it is much,much better but I still have very little energy, and my mood is taking a while to stabilize. U really don't start w/ding from m/d until about day 3-5 depending on length of time on methadone & dose amt. I was on it 15 years w/ A year break in 2003. So stay strong, and post in here often it really helped me...D

30mg is still quite a strong amount.   I meaured myself down until I was only on 4mg - and even stayed on that for a while.  Methadone is accummulative, and idealy, is weened off.   I was on methadone for 6 years, starting on 90mg - and found that every time I dropped to quickly, it would 'hit' me two weeks later, so I eventually dropped only between 2-5 mg, and not drop again for 3-4 weeks.  Good luck - you will get off it, but a slow taper is unnoticeable compared with a quick drop and feel it (i.e. if you've been on it 20 years, why risk going through any pain at all?)
