maraijauna and long-term effects on reproduction

Can marijuana effect a fetus when smoked regularly by the father. (not second-hand)  Will the future baby have health problems or other kinds of problems due to the father's addition to marijuana?

I am not a doctor or a nurse (anymore) but I think your baby has an excellent chance of being every he or she should be.  I've never heard of a fetus being hurt this way, would be kind of hard to do I'd think. Nothing to worry about love,  Congratulations!!!

i have heard that it takes up to 2 years to get thc(the main ingredient in pot) out of your system and that it can harm your baby.  But I have never seen proof of this.  My son is 6 months old, and lets see I was about 3 or 4 weeks pregnant but did not know I was pregnant whhen I so brilliantly decided to smoke some pot.  the whole ime i was pregnant i stressed so hard that my baby was going to be deformed because of that one time i smoked pot, but thank god he is ok.  I am not bragging either because using any kind of drug when you are pregnant is the absolute worst thing anyone could do to an unborn baby.  But what you should be worried about more than anything is your unborn child being born with an addictive gene,  you can go to a genetisist and fnd out once your child is old enough.  I mean if you want to take it that far.

but anyways congradulations!!!!  And good luck!!!

Irda, I was curious about the same thing.  My husband smokes every day (I have never) and while having frequent sex with no form of birth control I was concerned about birth defects.  It seems as though it is not very likely.  I did have one question for you, though.  I have read about lower and poorer quality sperm counts being related to frequent marijuana use.  Was this a factor for you?  Did it take long to get pregnant?  By the way, congrats!

This is one interesting question and I've been staring at it for quite a while.  Now, my comment...

Both my husband and I were avid pot smokers back in the flower power days (don't need to add our ages here).  We smoked right straight through my 9 month incubation period and had a beautiful baby girl.  When she was in kindergarden, she was continuously tugging my sleeve to teach her to read, so I began teaching her vowels and consonants (like long a a as in snake, short a ah as in cat).  I read to her constantly and when she was in 1st grade, her teacher called me and asked if she could be tested for "Enrichment".  I said sure, we met with the authorities, signed some forms and she was tested.  She had an IQ of 140 two months into the 1st grade.  She picked up reading in a flash and started getting bored because she could already read on a 5th grade level with 95% recall.  Two days a week, she rode the regular bus to school, checked in, then was transported by van to an Enrichment Center where she mingled with other children like herself and continued to do so all the way into high school.  She is now a gorgeous 26 year old mother of twin boys herself, highly educated and mirroring what her mother did for her with them (they just turned 5).  When they visit grandma, we go to the library, I turn them loose in the childrens section, they pick out books... we go home and I read.  She also smoked a little pot in her day and now you have a "Living Proof" story about the effects of pot smoke on 2 generations of children produced by, now ex-smokers.  My opinion is to not worry about it.  Have fun raising your baby.  Let it discover pot for itself in its own time (don't you smoke openly around it- go private with your own use) because their own friends will inevitably produce a joint one day and they will use their own minds on whether or not to try the stuff.  Incidently, my daughter speed reads and has 99% recall when she does and their is no thought problem produced that she can't decipher.

Feel better?  You should, because children reflect the concern and dedication they receive from their parents.  If you do well, even with a little smoke under your belt, they will also.  Have a great day and congratulations.
