Naltrexone= Revia! It has been around for 30 years and is wonderful. It works on alcohol, tobacco, heroin and other addictions, including overeating! It helped my father and brother stop drinking and drugs respectively and has even helped a friend of mine stop taking Crack cocaine. It doesn't work for everything or for everyone, but it has amazing success with physically addictive substances, which means there is little that helps with Crack. (My friend has reduced his crack habit by 80-90%, so he considers revia a success.) The new combination drug with buprenorphine is going to be available as a shot soon, so maybe my crack friend will have even more success with the shot. Very few side effects with rfevia, too. TRY IT.
yeah, i can see them giving him the sub. for dilaudid w/d's .. that would make sense ... wish you the best of luck and hope he does well w/everthing .. have a great weekend
He has taken everything you can think of and abused it except herion and weed. He tried weed don't get me wrong but didn't care much for it but never tried herion. If he wasn't using cocain he was taking dilateds everyday til he got more cocain. I have seen he wd from both and really can't tell which could be worse to watch. The cocain has more of a destructive pattern and anything else is usually just something we don't agree with and that is the cause of the anger he gets from the whole family
what exactly is he taking the suboxone for? the reason i ask is because in the beginning when i first started the suboxone, my urine test showed cocaine in my system .. yeah, i did it .. but he told me that most people who are addicted to coke and are on suboxone and do their treatment and have finished it .. he said 8 times out of 10, the coke makes the person relapse back to the pills .. now, i'm just repeating what he had mentioned to me .. don't know for sure how true this is or if i really believe it .. i know when i wz doing coke, i wanted pills even more .. don't know why .. but i did ... i don't do the coke now because of that ... was he taking alot of pills before and maybe thats why he put him on suboxone? just curious ... my dr did mention there is something they can give coke addicts to help them get off of it but for the life of me i cannot remember what it is ... i see him on monday, i'll ask him again ... does anyone else know? it doesn't make sense to give him the sub for the cocaine ???
I read your comment to deebra about the buprenorphine. I have a boyfriend who has been addicted to cocain for twelve years and not only uses cocain but also everything but herion and weed, who just started the suboxone treatment after leaving rehab where they told him it would be a good idea. I have done some research and I keeping how great the treatment is, if it is done correctly. But I guess my real question is why are doctors giving the medicine to cocain addicts if it only make things worse or just gives them another addiction to fight? Wouldn' t that be the worst thing for some one addicted to cocain? He is doing the 90 meetings in 90 days and also trying to make them all NA meetings but there aren't alot of NA meeting where we live just AA. He has already started the treatment would you have any suggestions on how to handle the situation because his mother is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and I am trying to help everyone plus maintain my own life. I just discovered this website today while trying to find a way to help his mother deal and cope with the addiction
To my knowledge there are no drugs to use to help with the crazings for Coke.....It is not physically addicting..If you go with NALTREXONE and BUPRENORPHINE you are just giving him another drug to kick. Jail didn't do it for me, so don't assume that jail will do it for him. For your hubby listen to Beachs advice about the NA meetings. He needs to be reminded every day that the Coke high is just not worth losing his family or his life. You see, it will ultimately kill him.
You didn't say how he stole to end up in jail, but some folks in this country are armed (me for example). Someday he's could try to rob the wrong person and end up dead. If that does not happen, the Coke itself will kill him. I promise you, it will kill him...The lightbulb has to go off in his head that KNOWS that his next line or next smoke, will KILL HIM.
Abuse Potential
Because of its opioid agonist effects, buprenorphine is abusable, particularly by individuals who are not physically addicted to opioids. Naloxone is added to buprenorphine to decrease the likelihood of diversion and abuse of the combination product. Sublingual buprenorphine has moderate bioavailability, while sublingual naloxone has poor bioavailability. Thus, when the buprenorphine/naloxone tablet is taken in sublingual form, the buprenorphine opioid agonist effect predominates, and the naloxone does not precipitate opioid withdrawal in the opioid-addicted user.
buprenorphine is addictive and can be abused even though it helps who is going to dispense it to the addict.....addicts can't control themselves thats why there addicts........
Does he go to N/A meetings on a regular basis? Does he see an addiction counselor?
what is he doing about his after care............or he has decided just to pick up some pills and take a short cut to feel better?
Recovery is hard work its just not a simple I'll do this or that.........
90 meetings in 90 days for all new to quit addicts is the recommended way to go.......
quitting to use is the easy part 3-7 W/Ds depending on your addiction but then the mental part that will go on for the rest of the addicts life kicks in..........
In N/A you learn what to do when that trigger is activated and that big frigging craving comes....some people know what to do and how to handle it some just say F-it and use.............
