Thank you for taking the time to answer. I'd like to think that it wont even be an issue at this point because I haven't taken any since the last time I mentioned. My apt. at the clinic was put off but I'm going in about an hour, 5am my time. Wish me luck.

Hi....what are you taking and how much???  methadone is way over perscribe and should olny be a option for I/V drug use and major pill habits  your best bet is to detox off the pills  hands down methadone is the worst drug to detox off off.....I have detoxed more times then I like to admit to and when I detoxed off methadone I thought it was going to kill me  I was dope sick for the better part of 90 days  you could be threw the phyical withdrawal in a mater of days coming off the pills   methadone is not a get out a jail free card  it is a horable drug and I would run the other way if I was ever offered it again  please thing hard and long about this dission\

I have been an opiate addict off and on for 13 years now. I made an appointment to go to the clinic this Friday at 7:30 am. I am not a Xanax fan, from this past Monday up until this afternoon, I have taken roughly 4-5 mgs of Xanax by way of breaking them into little pieces, to try to get some sleep since Ive been going through major dt's. I know they are going to screen me. What I want to know is will they drop me all together if they find it or will they work with me at all. I don't even like Xanax. I just wanted to try to get some sleep and it didn't work anyhow. Opiates are my issue and I just want to live normal like everyone else here. My wife,as angry as she is with me, is going to support this, but I'm scared out of my freaking mind they they wont help me because I may have Xanax in my system. I have no intention of taking them anymore regardless. They didn't help at all.

Hi I am glad you came back..Ok 50mg of methedone..So that is 5pills @ 10mgs Right? and the blues I did not catch the mgs..are they .5 or .1 ?
Now so that said..Boy that is alot of blues in one day...But from my experience if I had it my way, I would of tapered off the methedone and cut back a few blues while you are on the methedone..You can use the blue for the high a**s anxiety, sleep, ect.. when you are done with the dones..Then YES do a slow taper from the blues..If you get down to 1-2 while on the dones it could go quicker..Lots of times it is a money making pham & Doc thing out there in the world right now...They r making the bucks and turning us into addicts...It makes me soooo mad...
So in a nut shell cut back on the blues now while u r on the dones too..
Best of luck to you..

Hi!
Hope you're doing well after your meeting. I know it's stressful getting a 'sudden death' notice like this. They based their decision on your dirties, maybe your misses and possibly your appearance (whether you look high.) If it were me I'd be on the phone looking for an inpatient benzo detox. You shouldn't try coming off that amt. of Xanax on your own. I hear you when you say you want to do a proper Methadone taper. So, that won't happen unless you take care of this first. You're working in their time frame and they can take you down 5mgs. every three days - (at least that's what it used to be.) It's not a comfortable detox. Your clinic - if it's worth it's salt - will have referrals to benzo detoxes. Ask your counselor, head nurse or doctor as soon as you can. It'll probably be 5 - 7 days - and is usually a Phenobarbital, Valium or Clonopin taper off of Xanax. Seriously, this isn't something you want to do on your own and it's not just about seizures. It's about anxiety and panic attacks and being able to control the taper. Please let us know how it's going. I wish you every success in this and all things!

well I went to meeting it was the counsler ,dr,director, and a few other people. they are giving be 20 days to detox fron xanex. its going to be very hard I told them again I want off methadone. they say first I have to get off xanex . prescribed or not. I have to sign a contract saying I will slowly take myself off xanex . or they will send me back to a clinic that I have to pay for and I quote where they don't care. I feel like they want me to keep taking methadone because they get paid for it. through the state. its not free. my mind is so tired of all of this . I pray it all works out for the best.god give me the courage and strength to do the right thing.

Yeah,

You should really be careful w/ the benzos. I know that clinic environments are lousy w/ them which makes it tough. Best thing to do is ask a knowledgeable patient or your counselor. It's important that you know their tolerance for this type of thing because you might end up in a group you don't want to be in, lose your take homes -- and I'm guessing you already have or didn't have them to begin with -- or even be sent to an inpatient benzo detox (which might be a good idea.) Clinic policy generally vary place to place and state to state. The Federal regs. are loser in most cases than the state and clinic policies although there are certainly 'mills' that are exceptions. My last place was pretty strict. If you came up w/ a med. you're not prescribed -- and they can tell the difference between benzos, btw--your counselor would discuss it with you. If you continue coming up dirty, they'll move you to a 'cessation' group -- after which, if you were still dirty, they made you sign a contract where you promise to deliver a certain number of cleans in week one, two, etc. 'til you're completely clean or they tell you you have to go into an inpatient benzo taper in order to continue Methadone treatment. They're serious as a heart attack about it in Massachusetts, which is a good thing. That said, half the prescriptions for benzos came from them during the '90's before they did their about face in policy. I know it's hard, but lose them if at all possible. You can do this if you want it. Hope this helps....Wishing you all the best!

Xanax and methadone are both respiratory depressants it is dangerous to mix them.

HI.....most clinics will detox you....{swifty bring you down} but it is very uncofortable no way to go ....if you decide to give up the benzos you must do it slowly or risk sezure this requires a doctor to do your in a jam here but if you dont have a script and even if you do most clinics wont tolerate benzos ....good luck and God bless..........Gnarly

I don't have any first hand experience with methadone clinics, so I would have no idea what the meeting is about either.

As for the Xanax, I'm assuming it isn't prescribed, that's why the clinic isn't happy when you're testing + for it?  Would they be okay with it if it was prescribed to youm or would that not be permitted either?  Have you been upfront with them that you're taking it?  How many + tox screens have you had?  I'm sure at some point, it will be grounds for discharge from the clinic if you continue to test + for something you're not prescribed...so you must be careful and try to figure out how to handle this.

How much Xanax do you take, and how often?  That's not something you would not want to stop taking abruptly if you're taking it with any regularity, as benzo w/d can actually be dangerous, with seizures being just one risk.

I would have an honest talk with the clinic staff, explain that you really would like to come off the Methadone, and ask that they start to taper you off.  I also would think that being honest about the Xanax would be your best bet.  Maybe if you're just straightforward with them, they'll help you come up with a solution?  Honesty is always the best policy, especially in these kinds of settings.

When I worked in the sub clinic, VERY often we would have patients with different + results on their tox screens.  It wasn't THAT that was the biggest issue, it was the dishonesty and deceit that was the issue.  We always encouraged everyone to be honest, even if they took something they weren't supposed to, or relapsed.  The people who were honest always were giving opportunities to fix the situation, and reevaluate their progam, whereas the people who lied about it where usually discharged from the clinic.

Very best to you, hope you get something figured out.  I'd be curious to hear what this meeting is going to entail.

Hi I do not know what is up with the meeting but some one here will...I went c/t from 30mg from a 12 yr use of both those meds...I have seen a couple gals come behind me and beat the beast with a great taper...So being that said I will let them give you there success on their experience.
Hang in they will roll in and out....
God Bless u
