methadone for pain

I have been on methadone for a little over a year 60mls a day. I was previously on a variety of pain medications, oxicodone ms cotin I was then told from clinic I would have to go to a pain center and they would not be able to help me I then found out how addicted I was I went searching for a pain center to no avail and ended up finding a dr that would give methadone and the stuff they give to herion addics I could not believe I was now considered a addict I ended up seeing this dr and he gave me the methadone for pain 60mls a day I was doing fine at first then I noticed that they were changing my brain and my ability to be happy I seem like I am changing to a mean person my empathy towards others is very low and it was always high I love people but my patience is gone I believe its the drug?? I also have hepc and was told the methadone is easier for it. idk what to do can anyone help I had a serious injury to spine in 2001 and thats where this all started. I did not start taking meds till 2005 and it was very mild. I can not believe where I am at today at 58 What do I do now?????????????

Thanks so much for sharing your strengths with me I can not believe the medical doctors today they should have to go through withdrawal they would not write so easy. I saw so many young people getting stronger drugs than me and I know they were using to make money and taking em to get high and these dam Dr.s don't care I guess.
The Dr. I see now is okay deals with suboxone and methadone and hates when people like us,don't take responsibility for they're own addiction as we are the ones that choose to take knowing it is addicting and I tend to agree. I can't say too much to consider everyones different I don't blame the Dr. for giving them to me but when he just cut me off and said he was referring me and the Dr. he referred me to basically treated me like a drug addict and was shocked when I said I had been taking 60 mls of oxicodone and said he would never give me that much then preceded to give me half 30 mls a day that's when I  started looking for a Dr. that would give the methadone for pain and opiate addiction.
Here I am today dumb founded, sick and so angry at myself for allowing this to be happening.
I have to overcome this if I ever want to be happy, this much I know is true anything else who knows why.

I have been on the methadone for 14 months I am ready to be off it all for sure I will say its been quite the ride with these pain meds I never thought it possible the I would be addicted to anything and even when I was doing 10ml 6x a day or actually two tens every 4hours and 30 milligrams of the morphine 3x a day I was pretty medicated and will say I was starting to abuse them by chewing and taking more than I was supposed to I always told my Dr. so to justify it in my mind the addictive process at work for me lol.
Not funny pretty sad and its taken years of my life. Because when under influence of them its not living or being alive its fake everything the more I think about it I am feeling very emotional and I have 30 milligrams to take a day till I can see my Dr and re-up my prescription the thing is I don't want to and I need to not get any more I will get something for my nerves and idk I will ask my Dr.
I was planning on going to see a orthopedic and see what they can do In 2004 I did not like the options I was given from one of the best orthopedic surgeons I knew of either fusion of my bones in spine so 5 would be one no way-next was metal pins between my bones and I believe it was like ten so Like No Way
The last choice was the prescription pad my first experience with them and the choice I took. I did not stay on them for long as I did not like and hated going to Dr. In 2008 I took a very physically demanding job and I ended up going to Dr for the pain medications and have been on since.
So I am ready to get myself back and Thanks for the support and information.

As a methadone addict, I do not suggest long term use of methadone, unless the plan is to take it your whole life. Your surgeries where awhile back, I wonder how much of your current pain is legit and how much it is opiate induced hyperalgesia. It took me a long time off opiates to recognize what was real pain and what pain was caused by opiate addiction. My pain is more tolerable off opiates than it was on opiates. Anyway, what else do you do for your pain, besides meds?

Hi  I was originally given methadone for pain also but I was taking aim point shots in my spine when I told the doctor I was not willing to take the shots he cut me off and I wound up at a methadone clinic my dose skyrocketed to 150mg in no time and I stayed on it for almost 7 years the best way to get your life back is to slowly taper off there is life without methadone but you have to work for it  just know it is so so worth it to get your life back we will support you as you slowly detox this can take a few months to do so you have to be in it for the long haul if you have questions just post or message me I can help you do this

How long have u been taking the methadone? I ask this b/c tapering off of the opiates would probably have been better than switching to methadone b/c methadone is way stronger. I understand u didn't have much of a choice and I'm blown away that your Dr just cut u like that. That's pretty scrappy but they do it all the time! Are u ready to be off of everything? That's what they do on this site....give u the info I need to be clean of everything....I was on opiates for about 7 yrs and then on suboxone for another 6/7 yrs...I am now off everything for over 5 months. Are u ready?
