methadone help

MY DR TELLS ME NOT TO LISTEN TO MY FAMILY OR OTHER DR.S.  I M ON METHADONE 60 TO 80 MILLAGRAMS AND I HAVE GOTTEN SICKER AND MORE SYMPTOMS THAN WHEN I STARTED.  STARTED FOR PAIN NOW LOOK LIKE A SKELATON, BAD STOMACH, CANT THINK, DEPRESSED, AND STILL HURT.  IM SUPPOSE TO GO IN TREATMENT IN 2 WEEKS,  MY DR SAYS NOT TO GO. BEEN ON IT FOR 4 YRS.  WHAT SHOULD I DO?

HI....if you go on sub you have to get your methadone down to 20mg b/4 they will enduse you ....there is no fast way of doing this without suffering where not aloud to post taper plans but if you do so the slower the better you will feel less  to me going to sub only puts you on another addictive substance it would be best to just kick   c/t stand for ''cold turkey'' or just stoping the intake and deal with the withdrawals   keep posting for support good luck and God bless..........Gnarly

Hi c/t means "cold turcky"  If they are going to do a taper from the dones for a week then you should be OK..Then they useally like to give the done people the subs..If u feel you can do it without the subs then try..You will be fine..They also use other med for anxiety and sleep..I was just to bull-headed to take anything..It did not pay off..They wanted to put me on the subs and I only did it for four days and jumped off..I also was comming off of methedone, adderral and a benzo..I have seen alot of success here with people who did a taper from the methedone..I just went to a place that I had know one to relate to about the methedone w/d..Only the girls that were coming clean from the herion..They just choose to go c/t on there herion..It will be fine..It gets better and better each day and your head gets clearer and clearer. Do not stess..I did it from a 12year use..and I am going into my 7 month now...You will learn alot in there..It is the first candle on the cake to understand the addiction most us have...Hang tight..You were not on it very long it looks like..

what do you mean when you say c/t?  they tell me i wall do rapid taper because you are in the hospitol part of the retreat for 5 to 7 days, or switch to that suboxin stuff.  I cant go anywhere else du to having medicare, no one will take me.

I agee with all the above..A good taper is the way to go..Rehab is good..Just call and find one that will do a taper and not have you go c/t..Plaese make sure they know about the long life of methedone and try not to go with the subs..I am speaking from my experience..Do some home work and make sure you get the information up front on how they will do this at the re-hab Your health issue is a plus not to do a c/t...I wish you well on your new Journey.......

Hi .....the best way to get off methadone is a sloooow taper you want to get down to single digits b/4 you jump.......methadone is a monster to kick for most we have a lot of members who have beat it keep posting for support good luck and God bless........Gnarly

I agree w/ Ricart 70 re: rehab - a good 30 to 90 day rehab would help. You'll need the time and the care, There are some excellent ones in Florida, to start w/. I also totally agree w/ Nurse6572. Please, get a new doctor that will listen to you.  I was a high-dose Methadone person for many years. Methadone is not a particularly effective pain reduction drug for people w/ issues like yours. You're certainly not alone there and if it's disagreeing w/ you the sooner you get off it the better. Like Ricart 70 said, Subs. are probably not a good idea either. I wish you the best of luck. Yes it sonds like rehab would be a great option for you with the other medical issues.  It would be nice if they would just get you off of the drug and not replace it with suboxone though. I would really try to just find another md that is competent about dependency.He could really help you

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT.  I WAS PUT ON PERCOCET FIRST FOR BACK PAIN, THEN AFTER A YEAR I WAS SWITHED TO MORPHINE. A YEAR AFTER THAT I FELT LIKE I WASNT GETTING ANY RELIEF, SO THEN SWITCHED TO THE METHADONE,  HAD A BACK SURGERY, DIAGNOSED WITH FYBROMIALGIA, ARTHRITIS, MORE HERNIATED DISKS EXC.  THAT WAS THE PROCESS OF GETTING ON IT.  I CAN ONLY FIND ONE REHAB THAT WILL TAKE MEDICARE,  AND THEY TELL ME THAT I WILL BE IN HOSPITOL FOR 7 TO TEN DAYS DOING A RAPID TAPER OR SWITCH TO A DRUG CALLED SOBOXIN I THINK.  MY HUSBAND SAYS HE DOESNT WANT ME ON ANYTHING, NO ANTIDEPRESSANT, NOTHING WHEN I COME OUT,  SO I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO OR WHICH WAY TO DO IT.   I CANT DO IT AT HOME BECAUSE I HAVE A HEART CONDITION AND ASTHMA REAL BAD..  ALSO THOUGHT IT WAS INTERESTING TO FIND OUT THAT I SHOULDNT BE ON TRAZADONE OR ALBUTERAL PRODUCTS WHILE ON METHADONE.  NO WONDER MY HEART FEELS LIKE IT COMING OUT OF MY CHEST ALL THE TIME.....

It SOUNDS like you are on the Methadone for pain management?  

Anytime a doctor completely ignores the concerns of the patient, when the course of treatment is clearly causing more issues, not to mention not fixing the problem (pain), AND telling you not to listen to other doctors, it's beyond time to find a new doctor, without a shadow of a doubt.

The very best doctors would be fine with (and even encourage) a patient to seek input from other practioners.  Please seek out another opinion ASAP.  This doc is NOT doing right by you, and your (VERY legit) concerns are being ignored completely.  The Methadone is obviously making you pretty sick, plus it isn't even helping your pain.  That's a big problem.

I wish you the very best and hope you find a doctor who isn't an egomaniac.

lol.I believe this poster is  dependent and not addicted,was following doctors orders and now are in a world of hurt.I will assume they have been railroaded by their doctor until I hear further info

Hi I was hoping some others would answer with methadone and/or medical experience but I guess they are busy. I would ditch this doctor and get a second opinion.He sounds horrible and uncaring. Go to rehab,get another doc.It sounds like his plan is killing you. So sorry you are going through all of this.Keep posting here for support

Why were put on the methedone? For another drug use?? Is your DR trying to do a slow and easy taper??? We have alot of experienced methedone people on here..We all did it somewhat dif..But we all are here and alive to share our experience..
Most treatments centers will cut you off and give u a non-addictive med.(Speaking from experience only) If you are to go to a treatment, find one that will do a taper...Not just c/t you...Can u do this at home, a taper? Do you have some one u can trust to dull them out?? I know I could not have them in my lil hand or in the house. I would just sniff them out and find them..If you can come back we can help..OK
