Tolerance...............just like any other addictive drug.............

2 years as a slave to Methadone what do you think would happen if you could not get any more Methadone?

Have you ever considered going into detox and stop using and get your life back free from the slavery of drugs?

You are right.. the clinic is going to get you addicted to methodone.. and once you are on it a year like they want.. they will probably take 2 more years to taper you off of it.. if they do at all..
That is why methodone is called 'liquid handcuffs" most people who go this route end up staying on methodone since the withdrawals from it are so bad and last weeks even months..
What dose do they have you on??  Can you start to taper now?? What about going to an addiction specialist that can transfer you over to suboxone?? I would start looking into it now before they get your dose too high.. You have to be down to 20mgs of meth to switch to Sub. There are docs that will give you a script for something shorter acting like percs or oxy's to use for a few weeks so you can make the switch to Subutex or Suboxone.. this really would be the better way to go..

thanks for the input... never heard the liquid cuffs thing cute... not really makes since... ok i started at 30mgs and quikly went up to 75 and will be raised to 80 soon... i wanted to taper right away but no they want u on for like a year b4 thinkin of tapering.... they say if u quit b4 the first year you dont have such a goos success rate.. i tried subone i hated it i felt like **** it didnt work for me... take percs or oxcys to get off ahhggg no!!! thas what im addicted tooo....i gotta stay far away from it

Hmmm... well then.. you just may be stuck doing it their way.. which sucks.. methodone clinic politics just do not make any sense to me at all.. they hook you on the stuff and tell you to pretty much accept it..  I would like to see what statistics they are using for those 'success rates" cause i don't know many people who either got off of it at all or if they did get off they used cause they couldn't take the withdrawals even with a taper..

I wish you the very best of luck from the bottom of my heart.. stick around and read people's stories of what they did to get off.. I do remember one member that got off of high dose methodone cold turkey and he is still clean, he doesn't come around much anymore though now that he is clean.

XOXO

my husband is coming off of methodone and they are bringing him down
2mg. everyother week he said and he is telling me he feels high and looks high because of it. His he lieing to me and abusing something else
or is this true?  I would think he would feel withdrawn and not feel high.

Hi there, my girl is in the same sort of methadone treatment and the reason your dose keeps going up is to stabilize your body from the amount of oc you were taken and it blocks the addictive opiate nuerons in you brain to no longer crave your drug and so that you do not have any withdrawal symptoms.  Once you are at a stabilized dose of methadone you can be on that for however long you may need and then eventually the doctors will start lowering your dose to ween you off the methadone.  But, like i said you can be medically adminstered methadone for however long you need as they also monitor your health and how your body metabolizes the methadone for health reasons.  Good job on seeking the help it can be a great thing if its done right and you are under medical supervion.  Best of luck

You are trading one for another....     it may save you money Methadone is no joke, just as bad as Oxy.

Be careful,  I would recommend detox if you can afford it.    Or tapering off the Methadone ASAP.

Hope it works out...    Good luck.

Methadone is very hard to get off....I detozed off this past July and it was truly a ride.  I had to go through it to see it for myself, as you will, but I would suggest that you try your best to not go up in dosage anymore and really press your clinic about tapering soon.

On the positive side, it will give you a chance to remove yourself from your old habits and ways, it is just hard keeping it that way once you decide to come off.
